Figured it would have to be around there , just surprised he did not leave after the Neely comments.
But does Ullmark deserve the same money but less term?
Surprised OTT stepped up and paid Ullmark that much.
Bruins management is so bad, ive wanted them all gone for a decade but they keep winning games so it wont happen
Nobody cares about loyalty, legacy, or championships anymore. Everyone wants to be the highest paid.
I'm just glad we have Swayman and not Shesterkin!
They got it it’s called the bean pot
When i "heard" that Swayman turned down $8M AAV over 8 years, i scoffed… i thought $8M was a very good and very fair price for him? BUT $8.25M is fine too? Imo he's not overpaid
Thomas Kimberly Hall Helen Hall Jennifer
And Ullmark just signed for the same amount for 4 years. Seems the market is now set
Thanks for Ullmark Boston! You guys were fleeced by Staios. And Ullmark just signed an extension.
Id still rid of Marner for him
Whenever I want to know the truth I call Frank Seravelli. I don't listen to the actual parties involved. I listen to Frank…..WTF!
Swayman is not that good. If he wasn't on a good defensive team he might be backup goalie.
This is so rich….Toronto fans calling into question Boston's management group.
Fans were more turning on management than turning on Swayman.
Minimal nhl experience but paid like he's got the vezina already. Traded the wrong goalie and if he plays like an average goalie the home fans will be relentless and he'll spend millions on counseling so maybe the winner in all this is the Boston counseling community
He's overpaid right now… but in a few years, that could very easily flip. If it does, it's a good deal… if he never plays up to it, then it will be bad.. but that we can only tell by hindsight. So time will tell. The reality.. I think this waited do jeremy could skip pre-season.
Think you got this wrong Adam. Bruins management are VERY happy about the way it played out. This was done (Cam Neely's) bit b/c it was for an audience of 1–Mr. Jacobs/owner. Just the illusion of "standing" up to players demands is considered a win in their eyes. Not saying that is a rational position–but people are not rational–never mind rich hockey owner rational….
Starting goalies play 60+ minutes a night, 45+ games a year, are highly criticized fir every little move in the playoffs, and are often some of the lowest paid players on the team that arent on ELCs. Youre not overpaying someone whos a top 10 person in their career in the world.
34.848484% signing bonus on 8.25 leaving how much to escrow? if he had dropped his Sal Cap expectations, could he have received a higher signing bonus % taking home more monies and leaving less to escrow?
The goalie market is skewed since Brodeur, for a generational talent to sign a team friendly deal throughout his career. Props to him for doing so but a team friendly contract cannot become a requirement for goalies to be payed less than other players. considering every team win's or loses on the backs of their goalies there could be an argument that it should be the most paid position…
They weren't at 7.8….ok the B's were at 7.8. It's a 2mil difference. Not just 1/4 mil
The reality is, neither of you 3 are qualified to talk about hockey
8 million long a go could have done it.
After seeing a Korpisalo led Bruins team, nothing would have been overpaid.
Im happy Swayman got his money. It’s to bad the management didn’t offer him this early….all the drama 🎭 for nothing
WHO'S overpaid Steve
Sway wanted 9.5, the same as Macavoy. Both sides moved. Good signing for both.
Happy for him, hope he lives up to the hype…….
Swayman is a $4 million a year for four years goalie. He’s got 132 games under his belt and he’s made it through one round of the playoffs. That’s all he’s achieved nothing more.
I’ve been rooting for the Bruins for as long as I can remember, at least 30 years. Swayman is the first goalie for the Bruins that I honestly can’t stand. Bro is delusional. Dude has literally achieved nothing yet. He’s making 8 million a year for 8 years. Such a joke. He’ll fizzle out in two seasons and be a waste of cap space. Bet.
Swayman was reportedly asking for $9.5 and the Bruins's $6.5 offer was for 4 years not 8. When they went to 8 years it was around $7.5M I believe so the Bruins went up 750K and Sway came down like $1.25M Bruins won Ullmark making literally the same amount is proof they won.
I don't even understand the point of this vid. The first 7 minutes doesn't make any sense at all. Like what is the point you'e trying to make here? The whole planet expected Boston to lowball Swayman. But I'm surprised they waited til after they traded Ullmark. The whole planet knew he wasn't signing for less than 8+. I think the concensus is he could probably make more. So I'm thinking he just wants to be a Bruin and he wants to win a cup. 8+ might be below market value, but it's still a lot of money. So your choices are chase the money or chase the cup.
Leafs over paid Tavares!
Whats going on lately? $8.25M is too much for a goalie who hasnt proven he can be a clear #1 goalie. $2.2M is too much for Wallstedt (hes only played 3 NHL games). And, Woll's extension at about $3.5M is also too much for a goalie who hasn't proven he can stay healthy for longer than 15 minutes.
Keep paying goalies peanuts and keep getting bounced
I'm a bit confused. Didn't the panel also indicate that Bruins management demonstrated to their fans and players that they would negotiate hard, and that would help them in the future?
I think the most salient point is that if the Bruins keep winning no one will be thinking about this offseason squabble. But if somehow the Bruins have a slow start (losing to the Panthers doesn't count) and Swayman is merely average (or somehow below that) then it would get ugly. And Sweeney and Neely's position would become very uncomfortable.
How did the Capitals not already have the record for blowing 3-1 leads in back to back years.
good for Swayman getting paid and giving Goalies a reference for the future. Every goalie in the league is thanking Swayman right now for what he just did for them. Finally a guy good enough got what he was worth. Swayman isnt overpaid, hes being paid a fair amount, goalies have just been getting abused by the market.
Should call these segments, with the brick wall background, “Between 2 Ball Busters” as an homage to the 2 Ferns with Zach G.
Also Steve is going to develop MASSIVE neck muscles or require the same neck surgery as Eichel.
Red Sox suck ? How did they finish in standing compared to Blue Jays . Roger’s have everything they sucks except Maple Leafs based on regular season
Swaymans first two starts he's played well bostons defense is atrocious and give swayman no help.
Lots of people said I was wrong when I said Swayman didn't prove enough to get that money. Look at him now. Clearly not ready to be a number 1
