What’s the hold up with McDavid extension?

As training camp opens in Edmonton, Connor McDavid’s unresolved contract situation continues to garner headlines. Ryan Rishaug joins SportsCentre to discuss the hold-up in getting an extension done, how realistic it is for Edmonton to not make this a distraction, and the timeline for Zach Hyman’s return.

  1. lol the holdup is he has visions of himself wearing a certain sweater after this season and it ain't the Oilers'

  2. The utter disrespect Connor I getting is starting to irritate me. I can’t imagine how annoying it must be for him. This notion that he’s tied to the team his entire career is ridiculous.

  3. Connor McDavid is leaving Edmonton now if he wanted to stay in Edmonton he would of resigned with Edmonton already, that is the very true fact everybody should just face it Connor McDavid has even said it lots of times already that he wants to win with Edmonton he didn't say he wanted to stay in Edmonton long term he is done with Edmonton now n that is a very true fact n nobody will ever change his mind no matter who you are n Connor McDavid doesn't even care about what Lauren Kyle says to him because Connor McDavid and Lauren Kyle are getting a divorce now n Lauren has no say in Connor McDavid life anymore Lauren Kyle is Connor McDavid ex wife and that is a very true fact I am 2000 percent certain on that if you don't believe it then ask Connor McDavid yourself

  4. as an Oiler I view McDavid's statements contradictory. It is one thing to say 'we have CURRENTLY weakpoints, such as goaltending' and it is a totally different thing to say 'if there is a window we can win over and over again, then there is no problem signing'. A roster like Florida, where most. players earn around 8Mil, can be crafted for a few years to win 'over and over again'. A roster where the Oilerss have soon 4 players earning close to 50Mil, CANNOT be crafted to 'win over and over again' and McDavid is, just as management, part of the problem, cause he ain't taking some discount like Crosby, to enable further cap space for talent. Not saying he has to, but his expectation for 'over and over winning' is UNREALISTIC with the salary cap structure in Edmonton. Or his complaing about 'the aging roster',. Also contradictory, the team got younger, what does he want, a San Jose roster to never contend? You can't have highly paid talented experienced players and a non-aging roster, nor an over and over winning and the same time first drafts, the NHL is not allowing for such mechanisms. He can't pick 'highest salaries for him and few others, non-aging roster and 'over and over winning window', those stand all in CONTRADICTION.

  5. Just leave the Guy alone let him decide for himself. Everyone stop making up false rumours and stop with the speculations already bad enough he’s being pressured as it is. This is just like last year people were making speculations Draisatle won’t sign he’s going to get traded to the Red Wings or Bruins.

  6. It will affect other players that are up for renewal too, they may not want to sign for too long if they know Mcdavid is leaving

  7. Edmonton/Canada has too many immigrants/crime who the hell would want to live/raise a family there i don’t blame him at all never mind the tax advantages in the US as well, better weather, etc etc

  8. This is going to be a major distraction. I am sure he knows that. If he was all in he would just sign so everyone on that team could concentrate on on hockey. That being said I think he will go somewhere else
