There were other things that Colorado could’ve done to clear space to fit Kadri in. For instance, they could’ve traded Girard, Compher or even bought out Eric Johnson. Hindsight is always 20/20, but it seems much easier to find a 1st or 2nd line winger than a quality 2C. Tough to say at the time, but Kadri seemed to add intangibles that the team has missed since his departure.
What if Val Nichishkin never got suspended during 2 playoff runs in consecutive years?
What if JT Compher is required while Detroit retains 25 percent or more of his salary?
What if the Avs trade Martin Necas to Anaheim for Troy Terry, and 2 D Prospects that can step in right away while also trading Sam Girard for future draft picks that would be used as part of the return to acquire Sidney Crosby at this year's trade deadline?
There's a bunch of what if's from the 2010-2011 season: What if Mueller doesn't miss the whole season to concussion? What if Craig Andersson doesn't get hurt? What if Foppa's comeback worked out? If all of these work out in avs favour, who knows how good that team ends up. They definitely won't end up with Landy after that. Does Andersson stay with the avs?
