Habs Draft Talk – Wright or Slafkovsky? (Part 2)

OK Guys, we are officially one week away from the 2022 NHL entry draft, and there is still some uncertainty with regards to who the Canadiens will pick first overall. Shane Wright and Juraj Slafkovsky are both ranked very high by many scouts around the league, and most recently Bob McKenzie released his final draft predictions, and he had Juraj Slafkovsky selected to go #1 overall. In this Habs Draft Talk video, I will give my final thoughts on the situation.

The articles that were in the video were screenshots from Habsfanatics.com, I highly reccommend you to check out this site for further Habs News,

  1. I mean if you can’t decide just get jerseys second overall and take both 😂😂 all jokes aside I do believe with fiala off the table we are front runners for getting that pick if New Jersey does decide to trade it just a thought cause I would bet new jersey is one of the teams calling about Anderson’s availability🤔

  2. I was on his bandwagon.. until we won 1st overall. Anywhere but 1st I would have taken a chance at Slaf.
Everyone is looking at his 'one man show' ability. There is no doubt he will be fun to watch.
Slaf gonna make a lot of $ for the team he lands in by Jersey's alone and I'll be watching his career with interest. (Ok Palatine moment.)
Wright is my go to guy. The 'flip' has crossed my mind.. but.. man.. if I was in Wright's shoes.. ehh..

Wonder which scouts McKenzie asked.. and why the the 10th one he never got back to.. that's strange for a professional scout.

  3. Jersey can do a trade with Mtl. to ensure they get who they want …..No need to switch places in the draft to accomplish their objective ……. Mtl doesn't have the goods to pry the second rounder away but many other teams do >It will be Wright to Mtl….. If you have read Hugh's last interview ……..He wants the player with the longer proven record over one who just showed up in a short series …

  4. This is my take,
    IF we land PLD
Swap 1st overall for top 2nd or 3rd
    Receive top prospect for swap
    pick Wright Cooley or Slafkovsky
    Then yes, good.

  5. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! I’ve seen Slav play 6-7 games and I don’t get it… he’s not a top 3 pick, he’s barely a top 5 pick. I personally wouldn’t touch him up picks 8-12

  6. If we were any other team id probably say slafkovsky. Hes an absolute brute, could litterally be the next ovechkin. But we are the Montreal Canadiens, and have been starving for a great #1 center for decades. If you squint a little you could say Koivu was our last great center but even that is over 15 years ago

  7. How about we take Slaf and then sign Dubois in free agency next year. We also can get another high pick next year.

  8. I could be totally wrong but I think it's more between Cooley and Wright not slaf because Hughes said a couple good weeks isn't what they looking for and he said seeing who his son has played has helped a bit (Cooley)

  9. The Habs have 14 picks this year. …. IMO, the Habs should draft Slafkovsky as number 1 … Most scouts and GM’s say that the best pick of this year would be the 5th or 6th best next year 2023 ….. IMO, the Habs should draft their second pick being number 26 and for their 2022 remaining twelve picks, the Habs should trade / upgrade (4 for 1) or (3 for 1 ) or (2 for 1) with other teams for 2023 draft picks. … With smart negotiations the Habs could end up with two 1st rounders and 3 second rounders for next year, meaning the 12 remaining picks from 2022 are renegotiated for 3 or 4 picks for 2023.

  10. All of the internet ,,scouts´´ didnt realize, that Slafkovsky is playing men hockey for 2 years ang Wright played in kid league so far. Do you think, if Wright was playing at olympics, that he became MVP and top scorer of olympic tournament? Answer is up to you.

  11. EVERY TIME there is a clear number one pick, media people will ALWAYS try to make it "interesting'' by talking about it as if it was a real race, a real choice, etc. That's how they make fans watch their show. And they feel the absolute NEED to create a subject out of thin air, in the off season, to continually have something to talk about.

There isn't a single year where there isn't a shift in favor of the clear number 2 pick at this time of the year… It's ALL about media business crap.

The number one pick will be Wright, and if you REALLY do not believe it to be the case, for whatever crazy and uninformed justification, you're WRONG. Period.

  12. Not sure about Slafkovsky…i just don't want another Kotkaniemi, why not Cooley? i heard he got a better ceilling potential than the other two.

  13. I say trade Anderson or whoever except Zukes, Cole, Romy and Allen for the second overall pick and get both😆😆
We need the two top centres (especially both being two way) but Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkofsky line would be pretty amazing to see.

  14. I really never thought of it like that. If we trade 1st pick to NJ for 2nd pick and something decent, I would actually do it.
Bcuz I'm 99% sure NJ wont take Wright as their Centers r really strong, so they take Slaf, then we take Wright and we get something else from them as well. Lets say the 1% wins and NJ takes Wright, nothing wrong with Slaf really either, top line of Suzy, Caufield, Slfa
will be formed AND the item we get from NJ on top. I think its pretty smart ngl. 🙂

  15. AKAK THE GM BACK AT IT AGAIN (gimme thoughts in replies)
MTL gets : 2nd overall pick, Jesper Bratt, Damon Severson.
NJD gets : Jonathan Drouin, Jeff Petry, Ryan Peohling, 1st overall pick, 2022 3rd round pick.
What do u think, NJ gets 1st which confirms Slaf, replace Bratt with Drou, replace Severson with Petry, a 3rd and Peohling to make the deal sweeter and makes NJ ignore the contracts a bit less :). For the habs, same thing, Severson replaces Petry, Bratt replaces Drou, we get Wright (as NJ wont pick him bcuz they have enough centers, especially with Peohling coming as well), and a tiny bit of cap space (but we would also have to resign bratt as he is a RFA) peohling don't matter cuz he wont have room with Wright coming, Suzy, Dvo, Wright, Evans, see? no space for him, so he gone :), what do u think?
