Anze Kopitar shootout goal. Los Angeles Kings vs Philadelphia Flyers 11/17/2015

Anze Kopitar scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday.

Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick made saves on Sam Gagner, Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek in the shootout.

Quick had 36 saves through overtime. Milan Lucic and Jamie McBain scored for the Kings (12-6-0), who won their third straight.

Claude Giroux and Shayne Gostisbehere scored for the Flyers (6-8-4). Goalie Steve Mason made 38 saves.

Kopitar, the Kings’ second shooter in the tiebreaker, beat Mason high over his blocker for the winner.

Lucic’s goal with 55.7 seconds remaining in the third period and Quick pulled for an extra attacker forced overtime. Defenseman Jake Muzzin took a shot from the blue line that was stopped. Tyler Toffoli banged the rebound off the post, but the puck rolled through the crease to Lucic, who tapped it in to tie it 2-2.

The goal was Lucic’s sixth of the season and fourth in five games.

Giroux gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at 11:11 of the third when he finished a give-and-go with Voracek.

The Flyers thought they took the lead at 10:32 of the second period when Brayden Schenn got to the front of the net and knocked in the rebound of a Voracek backhand attempt. But after video review it was determined that Schenn used a distinct kicking motion to knock in the puck.

Philadelphia had other chances to go ahead in the second but went 0-for-3 in the period on the power play.

McBain’s power-play goal at 15:06 of the first period tied the game 1-1. Alec Martinez sent the puck point to point to McBain on the right side. He skated to the top of the right circle and took a shot that went off the stick of Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn and past Mason. It was McBain’s first goal since Feb. 5.

Gostisbehere’s first NHL goal opened the scoring at 3:41 of the first period. Giroux one-touched a Voracek pass to Gostisbehere above the circles, and the rookie defenseman one-timed a slap shot past Quick.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Gostisbehere, playing his fourth NHL game. “Every kid who has ever played hockey wants to play in the NHL, let alone score a goal. I mean, it’s really a dream come true. I really didn’t know what to do out there. I was just very happy.”
