Big news just hit Washington. Assistant coach Mitch Love’s on leave. NHL’s investigating. It’s shaking things up right before camp.
I’ve been watching these informal skates at MedStar Ice Complex. Place is buzzing. Almost the full roster’s there. Ovechkin, Wilson, Dubois — I’m seeing all the big names. These sessions are high-tempo. Coaches are definitely taking notice.
I’ve got my eye on Justin Sourdif, our new pickup from Florida. Two-year deal for this kid. He’s got skills, I tell you. Clean positioning, finds space, plays both center and wing. His numbers back it up too — 34 points in 43 AHL games last season.
Our veterans? They came back strong. I’m seeing Tom Wilson looking faster out there. Dylan Strome’s still that playmaker we know. They’re setting the tone.
These skates aren’t just warm-ups, folks. It’s an audition. I’m watching these guys push each other. That’s exactly the vibe you want heading into camp.
Oh, and have you seen the new jersey? Screaming Eagle’s back, but in red, white, and blue this time. Looks sharp with that rounded shoulder yoke, those stripes, and special patches. I can’t wait to see it debut on October 17th against the Wild.

These things are hard to deal with, we just don't know anything (which leads to speculation). Whether cleared or not, there will always be some sort of cloud over Mitch's head, it seems. Especially if the investigation is inconclusive about the allegations. In my previous career, I was involved in corporate investigation stuff and it can be messy. You have to find some corroborating evidence, sometimes things aren't so clear, there are shades of gray. Or you find smear attempts at the credibility of the complainant. It's a mess. And sometimes both parties wind up with damaged reputations, no matter what the outcome.
Scummy move, hope they fire him.
