Pionk Signs 2 Year, 6 Million Extension with Jets

This is a great cap hit for a top 4 defenseman.

  1. At first I thought it was serious than I though obvious sarcasm and now… I’m not sure

  2. Guys it doesn’t matter that he could get 40+ points. He can’t play defense. The guy can skate really well(goal vs the habs end to end) But I think he won’t pass 30 points.

  3. Oof. I love pretty much every video of yours Shannon, but this one is off. I’m a Rangers fan that defended Pionk up until January 2019. It was me against 95% of Rangers fans ever since Pionk signed in 2017. But the only people that see this as a Jets win are people that think both Trouba and Pionk are top 4 d-men. Believe me, Pionk is a bottom pairing d-man at the best. At the very best. Even if he can score 40 points, he’s still not a top 4 d-man because he can’t play defense. But the problem is that his offense isn’t nearly as good to make up for his awful defensive play. He would have to score like Burns and then some. His defense is just that bad. But if he struggles to produce, he’s not an NHL d-man. I really hope I’m wrong, but Pionk let me down after I vouched for him as long as I could.

  4. …. Sorry can't say I agree that getting Pionk and your own pick back is a bad thing from the Rangers perspective. I don't get this weird black and white way of analyzing things has become the norm…trouba is not just a set of numbers on a sheet. How easily time changes perspective. From the Rangers perspective it's not even slightly the wrong move. I do prefer this recent negative Rangers perspective from here though. Low expectations are good.

  5. As a rangers fan I feel like pionk was poor defensively last year because he was overplayed and played in a top 4 role. I can see him becoming a top 4 defensemen in the future if he improves defensively but I don’t think he is one right now and he’s going to be forced to play a top 4 role in Winnipeg this year

  6. Pionk will be really solid next year. He has good potential and the contract gives the jets short term to decide if he deserves a longer term when its up. I like it

  7. Seems like a good deal since he's less than half than trouba for half the points, fair deal.

  8. I'm willing to give the kid a chance, a year ago rangers fans were in love with him so he obviously had some potential, despite a very bad sophomore season

  9. Everyone said morrow was awful, he played great for us, everyone said bealieu was awful, he played great for us, I'm betting pionk plays great for us too. I have no reason not to trust our scouts at this point, just look at our draft history

  10. Funny 😀 Pionk at 3M is supposed to be a bad contract according to the comments here while Chiarot at 3.5 for 3 years is a good signing – laughable. That doesn't even make sense.

  11. Shannon, any thoughts on the idea of the Ducks offer sheeting Laine? Plenty of cap space (8m atm, and about 10m more than likely going ltir), and a desperate need for a goalscoring winger. The potential for the offer sheet & then dealing them a couple of players for picks is huge. Nick Ritchie & prospects maybe. Superstar Finnish Wingers from Winnipeg sort of work out for us, so at the very least it would show Bob Murray is trying something after we failed to tank last season (how do you fail to tank?). Would be interesting to see what would happen if we sent the sheet at the very least.

  12. He had 4 points the entire second half of the year LOL… Jets got robbed in the rangers trade, and that’s final

  13. He’s NOT from Omaha, he was born there moved back to Hermantown, Minnesota before his 1st Bday, anyway just clarifying that.

  14. I look at the comments and see people ripping Pionk, and , to a certain degree shannon. He looks VERY smart right now

  15. Ok Rangers fans, you have had 9 months to see how this trade went. So, why the big turn around for Pionk? On a better team? Better coaching? Playing with better defense men? Or did you just severely underestimate Pionk?
