Bulls REKAP Podcast ๐Ÿ€ (S1 – EP42): Ranking Josh Giddey after Bulls sign him to 4-year deal

The #chicagobulls locked up guard #joshgiddey to a 4-year $100 million dollar extension after an offseason of negotiations. While it’s a good deal for the #bulls, Joe Cowley says, let’s not let AK off the hook after a year ago signing #patrickwilliams to a terrible one. Cowley breaks down the deal and is joined by Ryan McGuffey as the duo break down and rank where Giddey is amongst the top point guards in the #easternconference. While they agree on the those at the Top, Guff pushes back a bit in the middle of the debate.

Plus, Cowley gives his Cowley Island Debate and a List of the top Bulls under contract after the 2025-26 season.

  1. Carlisle deserves so much more credit than he gets for that mediocre pacers roster. Also context is frequently missing here. Giddey was unplayable in a WESTERN CONFERENCE series. Against the eventual conference champion. HERRO SUGGS NOT POINT GUARDS

  2. You're basing it on Giddey playing out of position in the finals? You claim to know basketball? He's a point guard he is not versatile. He's not a good point guard because he can't play not as a point guard? ๐Ÿคก

  3. Just some NBA facts regarding Josh Giddey from the NBA site (I dont see any of your rated players doing this – PS.. Giddey in the first half was running on idle protecting Lavine's trade value ).. Coach pulled him numerous times on verges of TD's)
"Giddey, 6-8, 214, was acquired by Chicago via trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder on June 21, 2024, and his 2024-25 season totals of 1,022 points, 566 rebounds and 503 assists made him one of three NBA players to reach such minimums last season (LeBron James, Nikola Jokic). Giddey averaged 14.6 points, a career-high 8.1 rebounds, a team-high 7.2 assists and a career-best 1.2 steals in 30.2 minutes over 70 games (69 starts) in his debut season with the Bulls, becoming the second Bulls player to ever average at least 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists in a single season (Michael Jordan).

The 22-year-old Australian native recorded personal single-season highs of 30 double-doubles and seven triple doubles, marking the most double-doubles by a Bulls guard since 1988-89 (Michael Jordan) and the second-most triple-doubles in a season by any position player in Bulls history (Michael Jordan). Giddey also made a career-high 105 three-pointers, helping Chicago set the team franchise record for three-pointers made (1,271) in a single year.

Over Giddeyโ€™s final 30 games (1/23-4/9), he posted clips of 18.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks while shooting .490 from the field and .436 from three-point range. Giddey had a 10-game stretch with 220 points, 96 rebounds and 100 assists from Feb. 26 to March 27, becoming one of eight NBA players to tally those minimums over such a span (Luka Doncic, James Harden, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Nikola Jokic, Michael Jordan, Russell Westbrook).

Giddeyโ€™s impactful season was also highlighted by historic single-game performances, including becoming the first NBA player with a stat line of 15 points, 10 rebounds, 17 assists and eight steals in a game (at LAL, 3/22). He had two games with at least 20 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists, making him one of two NBA guards last season with as many games (Josh Hart), and he was the only NBA guard with multiple games (3) of 25-plus points and 15-plus rebounds. Giddeyโ€™s single-game career high of 19 rebounds (vs. POR, 4/4) was also the most rebounds by a Bulls guard since 1971-72 (Jerry Sloan).

Throughout his four-year NBA career, Giddey has averaged 14.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 0.9 steals in 29.3 minutes across 280 games (279 starts). His career totals of 3,942 points, 2,100 rebounds and 1,703 assists through his first four NBA seasons put him in a group of eight players all-time who have reached those minimums in four years (Larry Bird, Luka Doncic, Grant Hill, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Oscar Roberston, Ben Simmons)."
