SAVOIE SZN | Post-Game Fan Reaction: Oilers vs Flames – Rookie Showcase

Matthew Savoie made quite the impression for the Oilers tonight, netting two goals in a losing effort to the rival Calgary Flames. Other notable standouts for Edmonton included Connor Clattenburg, and Viljami Marjala. There were fights, hits, and Edmonton almost erased a 4-goal deficit in the third period in the first game of the Rookie Showcase. Hockey is officially back! Austin Hockey breaks it all down and more in tonight’s fan reaction! Make sure to “like” and “subscribe” for daily Oilers content! #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. I loosely followed but that was a crazy game!! If they could just avoid those quick back to back goals… Sunday should be fun!

  2. One thing people do not realize here is that, while true that Samuel Jonsson only let in 4 goals during those first two periods resulting in a 4-1 deficit. During the third period when Josh Banini was subbed in for Jonsson, Banini let in two goals within 10 to 15 seconds of each other in the 3rd period. That is what lead to the Oilers lagging behind 6-2. Throughout the third period, not only did the Oilers scored those three goals making it 6-5 (1 goal deficit) with 2.0 seconds left, but Banini BARELY faced any shots. Even ignoring that, his form and play style looked TERRIBLE out there. The point here is, if Jonsson was in net during the 3rd period, those two goals would have not gone in whatsoever and the Oilers would have won 5-4……UNBELIEVABLE!

I will say, while Samuel Jonsson didn’t have that good of a game himself, but neither did Own Say (the Flames’ goalie who got completely lit up in the third period and had a worse goals against average than Jonsson) and especially not Josh Banini. In other words, Samuel Jonsson needs some development time in the AHL before making over to the Edmonton Oilers full time. Banini needs time in the ECHL before even touching AHL ice let alone ice from the NHL.

  3. did you see clattenburgs pure giveaway causing the goal or no? i wasnt that impressed by him to be honest
