Bryan Trottier had a storied 15-season career with the New York Islanders from 1975 to 1990, becoming one of the franchise’s greatest players. Drafted 22nd overall in 1974, he burst onto the NHL scene, setting a rookie record with 95 points in 1975-76, earning the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie. As a key member of the Islanders’ dynasty, Trottier centered the famed “Trio Grande” line with Mike Bossy and Clark Gillies, helping lead the team to four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983. His standout 1980 playoff performance earned him the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP. Trottier’s best offensive season came in 1978-79, when he scored 134 points, winning the Art Ross and Hart Trophies as the NHL’s leading scorer and MVP. Known for his all-around play, including defensive prowess and physicality, he amassed a franchise-record 1,353 points (500 goals, 853 assists) in 1,123 games, remaining the Islanders’ all-time leader in points and assists. His number 19 was retired by the team in 2001, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.
