Can The New York Rangers Bounce Back This Season?

The New York Rangers had one of the worst 2024-25 seasons, relative to expectations. After winning the presidents trophy, they completely fell apart, missing the playoffs without even a first round pick this season as consolation. As players like Artemi Panarin, Igor Shesterkin, Adam Fox, and Mika Zibanejad age, the Rangers making an effort to contend right now becomes even more important. To this point, their young players, like Alexis Lafreniere, and formerly Kaapo Kakko, haven’t performed up to what people had expected of them. With all that surrounds the Rangers, today, we look at whether it’s possible for them to bounce back from their awful past season, repositioning themselves more so in line with how they had performed in 2023-24.

  1. Eh I wouldn’t be completely surprised if we miss the playoffs our LD besides Gavrikov is a giant question mark and an injury to a key player could take us out like that. The league is a dynamic place whether that is to the Rangers’ benefit or detriment it’ll be interesting to see. I’m dying to watch live hockey again

  2. On October 6, the Rangers will name Adam Fox their new captain and name J.T. Miller and Vincent Trocheck alternate captains, on February 27, 2026, the Rangers will trade Alexis Lafreniere, Dykan Garland, Drew Fortescue, E.J. Emery, and 2026 and 2027 1st-rounders to the Blue Jackets for Zach Werenski and Yegor Chinakov, and on March 4, the Rangers will trade Sam Carrick, Taylor Raddish, Matt Remp, Carey Terrance, and the Hurricanes' 2026 2nd-rounder to the Sharks for Tyler Toffoli and a 2027 2nd-rounder. This coming season, the Rangers will finish 1st in the Metropolitan Division with a 66-12-4 record to capture the Presidents' Trophy, beat the Canadiens in 5 games in the Eastern Conference 1st round, beat the Hurricanes in 5 games in the Eastern Conference 2nd round, beat the Devils in 5 games in the Eastern Conference final and beat the Blackhawks in 5 games to capture their 1st Stanley Cup since 1994.
