Great show as always.
I’m no hater but to me Newhook should be on the wing
Veleno to me is a better option as a temp 2C, better faceoffs, has some size, has offensive skill, playmaking and finish
Newhook should embrace the defensive side of hockey like Anderson did last season, using his elite skating to forecheck, PK & hunt down loose pucks, round out his game and less pressure on him to score in a top 6 role.
He reminds of a Lekhonen and Burrows when they were young always getting the chances with their hard work and skating but lacking finish.
I say take the pressure off at C, unless Newhook somehow learned how to win a faceoff, found some hands and some poise this offseason… I guess you never know… but just my take
Beck, Kapanen or Florian could play bottom 6 C if Dach isn’t ready
Beck to me would be the perfect DVO replacement I can see him entering the line up between Andy and Gally 2 responsible hard working veterans to ease him in to NHL
Gally – Evans – Andy I’m sure will be leaned on at times especially late in games securing the lead / win but having all of your best bottom 6 checkers on one line may not being the balance over 60minutes
I think some day Florian will be our Sam Bennet, I’ve said it before… he is a unicorn and unicorns don’t have ceilings, perhaps not as a 2C, but who knows… one thing is for sure in Laval he was a C that is an absolute pain to play against and can hurt you on the score board just as much as he does along the boards
Kapanen is sneaky good player too but needs to bulk up where as Beck is already physically strong for the NHL, Florian may too need a bit more meat on his huge frame, not much though the kid is already a monster
Florian is an absolute wildcard second only to whether Dach is ready and can take the 2C by the horns
Many say the Habs center depth is poor but
Suzuki an elite 1st line top 10 C in the NHL
Evans one of the best bottom 6C’s in the whole league and the most minutes played on PK
I consider them elite at their positions and with much better wingers this coming year than they have ever had I’m not as concerned as most

Newhook

Just off the top of head 6 centers to fight for 2 spots
Not sure who gets which chair but one thing is for certain this camp will be one the funnest to follow in decades
Kent & Jeff will give this group a fighting chance
I believe them when they say they are happy to start the season with this group just as believe when they say that if an opportunity presents itself to improve the team they will pull the trigger
I am annoyed over the repetition of the 2C lamentation
Just like Hutson getting snubbed from USA orientation and that likely adding fuel to the fire under his ass
I’m sure all this 2C talk is doing the same for Dach
I’m pulling for Dach, cuz man if he hits as our 2C or at worst is healthy and can be a versatile big body, smooth skating, soft hands, PWF with snarl whether on the W or C he is a great asset

Hope to see at least a few games for Florian with the habs, but i think another full season in the A with an even bigger role will be key to his development.
A line of :
Tuch – Xhekaj – Thorpe could be an absolute force, and could make for an amazing 4th line for habs in the future
I know Beck was briefly mentioned. But This guy is getting no respect. I guess his game wasn’t liked too much last year. Hmm. And then Marco got on the wagon. Damn straight.
Respectfully, trade Dach and Newhook.
These are the guys we need to trade , newhook , kapanen , evans replace them with roy , florian X , beck ! Were not winning the cup with the first 3 guys i mentioned 100% not ! Over 50 years ive watched hockey trust me now believe me later ! Go habs go !
Beck has the smartest brain in the organization, you can test that if your skeptical.

Not sure we trade Evans but all others have to make the team. None have been given a legit chance yet because some vets have been shed.
