It would have been some closed door meeting that isn’t announced until. Now they have the freedom to show personality, and become more likable to the fans

If Lou was still GM Dobson would be signed for 9.5 and we'd be mediocre for 5 more years. Darche is doing a fantastic job, this one move was huge just not being stuck with a big contract and actually getting young assets and cap flex. Plus Schaeffer makes it a no brainer
9,5 M$ x 8 yrs = 2,5 M$ too much at the begining. it will be fine in 2 or 3 years and maybe a bargain atthe last 2 years of the countract but it would be 32-33 years Which mean how bangup he will be at that time only time will tell. Check what is happening with #25 Darnell Nurse who is also paid 9,5 M$/yr. And Erik Karlsson in Pittsburgh.
But one thing for sure Noah Dobson ain't Larry Robinson. (+720 in Career) or Paul Coffey or Bobby Orr. I beleive the habs might have shot themself in the foot. Specially when their real stars (Lane Hutson and Ivan Demidov) will be ask to be paid more money they could not offer in a few years.
