  1. Dahlin, Ristolainen, Montour. Sabres are building up a nice young d core. Trick will be to get Skinner to resign and get a #1 goalie you can trust

  2. The first is conditional. They might not get it at all. If both the Blues and the Sharks miss the playoffs then the Sharks pick goes to Ottawa and the Blues pick could remain with St Louis if they win the draft lottery.

  3. This was a good hockey trade. Montour has been a solid producer, even on a pretty poor Ahaheim team. Plus, he's also fairly young at 24 years of age, and is a right shot D-man, which is what Buffalo needed. Guhle was not working out and fell out of favor with the emergence of Pilut. Buffalo also still has two first round picks this year. I'm happy with the trade.

  4. We acquired a more consistent young guy who can play at the NHL level for an AHL guy and likely a bottom 20-31 first round pick, it was a good trade for Buffalo

  5. Love Montour as a Ducks fan and I'm sad to lose him. This is good for the tank however. Hopefully Guhle can provide something to our team in the future, the first will likely go to good use via our head scout Martin Madden.

  6. I think the Sabres win this one, give up 1 of their 3 1st rounders and no one off the current roster. Can’t see how this turns out bad for them

  7. Key for Buffalo is Montour's still an RFA after next year. As a righty fills a need, can play the style they're trying to play. Guhle was supposed to make the team out of camp this year. He's been inconsistent this year in Roch (was added to ASG as a replacement). Great skater/puck mover who has looked fine in his limited stints with BUF but he just hasn't taken that next step in the past year. Maybe he just needs a little longer, or maybe they're dealing him at the right time. Time will tell.

  8. Losing Guhle is a tough pill to swallow. His skating is Elite. The Sabres always played different with him on the roster. Montour is a steal though. I love this trade for both teams.

  9. Fantastic!!! Now does anyone know if Montour can play goal? Because that, fellow Buffalo fans is THE area that ‘our’ GM J. Botterill needs to improve if the Sabres even stand a chance of making the playoffs in this 18’/19’ season.

  10. Breaking News: Detroit trades Gustav Nyquist to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for one of the Sharks' 2nd round draft picks in 2019 (more specifically Florida's 2nd round pick) and a conditional 3rd round draft pick in 2020. However, that 3rd-round pick becomes a 2nd round pick if either the Sharks make it to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2019 or if the Sharks sign Nyquist. Does anyone think that Detroit could've gotten more with the Nyquist trade? Probably, but Nyquist had a no-trade clause, which essentially put Ken Holland at the whims of both Nyquist and the Sharks.

  11. I wish there was a reality show that was just about NHL wives and them pitching a shit fit when they find out they have to move from a place like South California to Buffalo in the middle of winter.

  12. Late first rounder and a fringe dman for a young RHD under team control for this year and next for a good cap hit, skates well, can put up points, lots of upside. Steal for the sabres, wish the leafs could’ve snagged this guy

  13. Shannon, do you think this means Rasmus Ristolainen is closer to the door than ever? Tough as a WNY guy to see him go, because there is precious little grit on the Sabres. But, clearly GMJB did not make this for a run/rental. This is a trade of an asset for a player they want over the next years at a good AAV. I think that maybe puts RR in different sweater before today is done. Hopefully instead he takes Scandella out of the lineup. (!)

  14. buffalo got 8 nhl defenceman.. i wonder if they TRY to trade dir penarin or Stone with Risto or mccabe and both first rounders involved or 1 defenceman plus a pick for mike hofmann

  15. I love this trade for both team in my opinion buffalo won it tho. They got a proven defenseman that has shown he can play in the nhl. The ducks got a couple of question marks. And buffalo still has two first rounders. Great trade all in all

  16. Why did Murray drop Montour's minutes? Montour has been super coveted in the Buffalo media, pretty much since Anahiem took him at the draft – thus in turn, super coveted by fans in Buffalo. Guhle is a very intersting prospect, I wish him the best. He should have been in Buffalo this season over Scandella, Beaulieu and Hunwick.

  17. This actually gives the Ducks some cap space and room to upgrade on offense. Not sure if the Ducks could have signed Montour to an extension if this deal did not happen. I was expecting either Montour to be traded next season before he hits free agency. Guhle and a first is not bad at all. Ducks might be able to turn Guhle into a top 4 given their track records of developing Dmen. Another 1st helps them get another solid prospect to kickstart the “rebuild” or “retool”.

  18. I think if Casey Nelson comes back this season it'll make a pretty great Top 4 with Risto, Dahlin, and Montour. Bogosian would also be able to move down the line up and be a pretty solid number 5 D man. Definitely a good move for the Sabres.

  19. I guess its a pretty fair trade when about half the people I'm hearing say Ducks won it and half say the Sabres won it.
    GO SABES!
(Now, package our 2nd of 3 first rounders with Boags or Risto and get Pararin)
