Imagine Connor McDavid is a maple leaf next year also in that year it's Edmonton vs Toronto and the Stanley cup finals and Edmonton still wins without McDavid that would be the most craziest scenario ever oh my God it's so going to happen

If not McDavid, Adrian Kempe would be an amazing add and most likely if LA doesn't want to sign Kempe for 10-11 mil

I just wanted to comment on the extra players Toronto has.. I wonder if maybe they plan on keeping some extra bodies around this year for playoff death like Panthers changed out their 4th line against Toronto,,,,it Turned the series around
If they can't trade for connor now than dont bother signing next year. At that point he is 31 and tying up 18mill till he is 35. Swap 34 for connor and bobs your uncle leafs will have the best chance this year to win. Beyond they will still be competitive but the new contract kicks and will hobble their chances.
If connor is hoping for a cup this year will be his last chance. i think thats what he is trying to figure out.
Scott, roy, Miccelli,dakota. All the worste or next worst on their past teams for plus minus. Not one of those guys has a spot yet. Meccelli never played playoffs, roy was minus 5 in the playoffs and the worst plus minus guy on his team. Dakota worst playoff questionable. Laughton was minus 18 on the year. Those are guys their past teams would have paid to shed.
Must plan for July 1, 2026 when McDavid signs with the Leafs!!!!!!!
Thing is, does McD re-sign this this season? if he doesnt then he is moving. We know he was bitterly dissapointed no get drafted by the Leafs, we know he wants to come here and win a cup, and be a legend forever….will it happen? a long shot right now, but its the NHL, things you dont expect does happen. The other interesting thing is Shanahan and Dubious have left, i like Tre' he would seem to have a plan, seem to be building well, adding good depth (needed in the playoffs) and looking at the longer term. We will see how it works, it's the Leafs, if they can find a way to f**k it up they will but i have great hope for them.
For McDavids speculated overpriced salary, you could almost have Jets Connor and Stars Robertson for the same price….. for slightly younger talent.
Ride this lineup, Kampf and Jarnkrok's values will skyrocket at the trade deadline.
In other words a cop out for doing nothing this year.

If McDavid #97 does not win a Stanley Cup in Edmonton within the next 1-2 years, I can see Connor moving on from Oil Country! TORONTO bound, I guess we will wait and see?

It's very unusual for a top end player to not re-sign with his team. Notable exception was John Tavares not reupping with the Islanders, but more often than not the top players on a team re-sign with their teams. Of course we'd love McDavid but I'm not holding my breath.
A month or so back I posted that it would be smart for "Tree" to maybe hang onto what the team has picked up and ride out the season and see how things shake out, then, aqt the deadline the team would be in a far better place to add a very specific need with more money because the season has passed by and also there's a bigger pool of available players to pick from and odds are, far better players than are available now.
I think it would be the smartest way to proceed at this point.
