Let me know your expectations for Detroit this year
Long time detroit suburbs resident and unfortunately this will be another hopeful but a disaster of a season. The yzerman plan doesnt involve trading pick or players for proven players. We sign old mid tier guys except for a few players and thats about it.
To me, this season and upcoming off-season in 2026 is the final time that the Detroit Red Wings could have one of the best prospect pools in the NHL. A lot of Detroit Red Wings prospects are very close to graduating from G.R. and becoming full-time Detroit Red Wings players.
Detroit Red Wings prospects future time-line in becoming full-time Detroit Red Wings:
At the start of the 2026-2027 season:
Nate Danielson, ASP, Carter Mazur, Amadeus Lombardi, Sebastian Cossa should be all locks
William Wallinder and Shia Buium will have an excellent opportunity to graduate.
Dark horse candidates:
Dmitri Buchelnikov and MBN
At the start of the 2027-2028 season:
Dmitri Buchelnikov, MBN, Anton Johansson
Trey Augustine and Emmitt Finnie will have an excellent opportunity to graduate.
Dark horse candidates:
Jesse Kiiskinen, Carter Bear, and Max Plante
At the start of the 2028-2029 season:
Jesse Kiiskinen, Carter Bear, Max Plante
Dark horse candidates:
Eddie Genborg and Michal Svrcek
Detroit Red Wings 2031-2032 season line-up:?
Bear Kasper Raymond
Buchelnikov Plante MBN
Lombardi Danielson Kiiskinen
Finnie Soderblom Mazur
(Genborg, Svercek)?
Sergachev Seider
Edvidsson ASP
Johansson Johansson
Wallinder
Augustine
Cossa
The PK was the main reason we missed the playoffs. They were middle of the pack the season before and will need to bounce back to that. Hamonick is a no risk signing to compete for the 7th spot and would probably be better on pk then holl who I expect to be waiver after camp.
Only way the Red Wings improve is if Yzerman comes out of retirement. Cheers from Ottawađ
Born and raised a Wings Fan now in my late 40s. These last 9 years have been brutal. 100th anniversary this year is even more added pressure. Hopefully it becomes motivation.
The D core is the Achillies heel for the Wings. Yzerman traded Hronek and Walman in questionable moves, and has done next to nothing to rebuild the blueline. The addition of Gibson looks to be a good move, but time will tell. The contracts for Copp and Compher continue to be a serious burden, as well as wasting 2 roster spots. I expect little change from last season. Yzerman's time is running out, there appears to be no plan at this point.
itâs going to come down to goaltending
I hope they make the playoffs, they probably don't, as long as they don't take a step back and they are right in the mix, I'm happy, disappointed, but not mad.
This is a season of change and the beginning of the future.
I've been critical, at times of Yzerman, but I can see the 25-26 season as the transition between middling to contender entering the 26-27 season.
So many contracts are up at the end of this season, particularly on the blue line.
Many young guys are getting close.
I think Danielson ends up playing more in the nhl than the ahl this season.
I anticipate wallinder and maybe buimm getting a look at some point, and hopefully even ASP by the end of the year.
I also anticipate berggren and maybe compher not on this team by this time next year.
I also think Yzerman makes the blockbuster trade or signing we've all been waiting for by this time next year.
Team is gonna look a lot different come 26-27 and will be the beginning of the good times, fans just gotta make it through one more mediocre season.
I think they are gonna surprise everyone and finish with 104 pts. Penalty kill fix and not blowning leads will be the difference. Gibson is gonna have a nice season. Power Play is gonna be dangerous and the defence if they stay healthy could be better than people think. Its gonna be a great 100th year anniversary. Let's get it started allready!!!
there bubble team unless they upgrade top 4 right d powerplay guy and top 6 winger or center
Third line should be JVR cop Appleton or that even should be 4th line tbh give the kids the third line rassmussen berggren soderblom
With Gibson we could see him win at least 16 games and talbot around 20-23 wins with Cossa at least 5 wins they will give the kid more then 1 game this year maybe 10 games or more but those games of he wins could see us at the 95 point total where we would need to even think of wildcard spot 97 would be solid playoff ticket puncher but 95 has to be the goal in points this year
Sorry but I don't see this team as better. The Yzerplan is a failure I'd say. No top of the lineup superstars, and guys like Larkin are gonna start creeping up in age.
My hope as a Wings fan is that someone impresses in campâŠlike Danielson or Mazeur. They could start one of them on the Wing with Larks and Raymond, and keep Kane and DeBrincat together on the second line with Kasper. I guess the other option would be to move Kasper up on the wing and make Danielson the 2C.
I also think McLellan being there the whole season will make a difference. They got off to a TERRIBLE start last year, and I donât see that being the case this season. I also think Cossa is going to get games this season.
They got a little better, but so did other teams in the division. I think the Wings finish 6th in the Atlantic again unfortunately, the d core still isnât playoff caliber.
It's a good year to gamble. Either to they make the playoffs or get a shot at a very good player that moves the needle.
I would love to see Yzerman trade for Mikhail Sergachev to complete Detroit's future defense!
Trade proposal:
Detroit trades their 2026 1st round draft pick (top 10 protected), 2026 2nd round draft pick, Shia Buium, and Erik Gustavsson to Utah Mammoth for Mikhail Sergachev.
Detroit Red Wings 2025-2026 line-up:
Soderblom Larkin Raymond
DeBrincat Kasper Kane
JVR Copp Appleton
Rasmussen Compher Berggren
Sergachev Seider
Edvidsson Johansson
Chariot JBD
Holl
Gibson
Talbot
