Penguins’ prospect Harrison Brunicke could be in the AHL THIS YEAR!

A potential agreement between the NHL and the junior leagues this coming season could be a big break for one of the Penguins’ top prospects! Patrick and Hunter take today’s episode to talk about a lot of CBA changes that are being implemented this season. They begin the show discussing a reported deal between the NHL and the junior leagues that is in the works, which would allow teams to loan one 19-year-old to the American Hockey League. For the Penguins, this could mean getting Harrison Brunicke out of juniors and into the professional game full-time, but would that be the correct move for him and his development? Then, the dive into another aspect of the CBA that will go into place this year regarding salary retention. How will this new rule affect the Penguins’ potential trading defenseman Erik Karlsson? Finally, in 2026-27, the NHL season will begin in late September and end by mid-June. They discuss why this is a good idea and what it means for the growth of the sport.

  1. I hope this becomes a real option. That would be awesome for Brunike and the org. If the new right side defenders dont perform or become tradable, then Brunike is there to step in with pro experience.

  2. The best coaches and managers work within the salary. To say the best are the ones that find loopholes to exploit seems counter intuitive. No salary cap or floor gets you teams that can't afford to compete or teams that are perennially the top of the league because they have the most money, not because they are well managed or coached.

  3. I don't know how much the CBA will affect trade deadline moves. I don't really remember many "blockbuster deals" around the last few deadlines. Maybe the Rantanen trade..

  4. The NHL could make a large positive in their audience if they started doing some national midweek games, weekly. Many networks are struggling with prime time lineups. CBS is mostly reality shows. Pick a night of the week and put a solid matchup on. And then advertise it. "Wednesday Night Hockey's Stanley Cup rematch" Or use that for a schedule of outdoor games. They really need to build the rivalries back up. Pens-Flyers should, very much, be like the "Battle of Alberta".

  5. I for one will watch a hockey game over an nfl or college football game. Yes the nfl is more popular for the younger viewers but most middle age to older people I know don't care much for what the nfl has become. The hitting has been taken out of the game for the most part and most games are scoring fests because defenses are at such a disadvantage to do rule changes. It should be the nffl. National flag football league. I would rather watch players get crushed against the boards or two players drop the gloves and fight one another. That's more entertaining to me.

  6. Yeah unfortunately I don't think Brunicke can play in the AHL yet, I don't think this goes into effect until next season. He's probably gonna be stuck in Kamloops another season unless he blows the coaches away at camp, which is possible.
