Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon has reached a tentative agreement to buy the Portland Trail Blazers from Paul Allen’s estate, according to people familiar with the details.

Others in the group include Blue Owl Capital co-president Marc Zahr and Portland-based Sheel Tyle, co-CEO of Collective Global, according to the people, who were granted anonymity because the details were private. The new group intends to keep the team in Portland, the people said.

The deal including two payments, one at close and one at a later date, with a blended valuation of roughly $4.25 billion, according to multiple sources.

“We are excited,” Dundon said in an email. He didn’t immediately respond to a question about the price. Allen’s estate declined to comment. Sportico values the team at $3.6 billion.

Any transaction would require NBA approval.

  1. IS THIS GOOD FOR THE TRAIL BLAZERS?

  2. I can't imagine the NBA would let the Blazers move to Raleigh, seen as how they have another NBA team right down the road in Charlotte. And I'm sure the Hornets owners wouldn't want/allow it.

  3. As a tennis fan, I do not like pickleball…especially when it comes to pickleball players taking up tennis courts from tennis players

  4. The Rose Garden is still a beautiful arena. Great for concerts in addition to the sports. Renovations would purely be to increase revenue.

  5. There’s things attached to motor center like a restaurant and stuff we could renovate that stuff and make it look prettier and Lloyd center area is gonna be renovated by 2028. I think you could tie that in.

  6. What is good for the Portland trail blazers is there going to have an owner that can be trusted. They may have to mix it up on may have to change it for a different logo but the same logo has been around for decades

  7. As a Sonics fan this gave me flashbacks to when they were sold to an out-of-town buyer who had "no intention" of moving the team, and we all know how that turned out. But it's reassuring to hear there's local people in the group, and I also don't think Jody would have sold to someone she thought would relocate the team as that probably would've been the last thing Paul wanted.

  8. 1 NBA title in three Finals trips, 37 playoff appearances in 55 seasons (fourth all time since 1970 behind the Lakers, Celtics, and Spurs), 21 playoff appearances in a row (2nd longest all time streak, record is 22 in a row help by 76ers and Spurs), and 814 consecutive games sold out (second only to a minor league team, Class A baseball Dayton Dragons who have over 1600 consecutive sellouts).

I think it’s good for Portland, there have been a lot of uncertainties since Paul Allen passed away. Ownership stability is nothing to be sneezed at in any sport.

  9. As a canes fan my 2 cents on dundon he came into owning us when we hadn’t made the playoffs in 9 years. We had attendance issues for years.

There were constant rumors of us being moved over that decade span where we missed the playoffs

He’s been pretty good he isn’t always in the spotlight but has developed the area around our arena and extended the lease and has made sure to prioritize keeping us here

Not to mention developing youth hockey here massively and bringing an outdoor game here as well

If anything I don’t want the blazers to move here. Portland deserves its team and honestly might deserve more teams if you ask me

In all honesty I believe he has modernized the organization and allowed us to have stability from management to the coaching staff

He wants to win but allows the experts to do his job while opening his cheque book whenever necessary

  10. Brodie, you are ALWAYS ahead of the curve on breaking stories. I had not heard anything about a 'Blazers sale, and there you are bringing it to the forefront. Another reason why I enjoy your content. I would seriously doubt that Dundon would ever move them to Raleigh. Lenovo center has got a pretty packed schedule with the said Hurricanes, and NC State mens basketball. Not that that would make it impossible, but perhaps some over saturation.

  11. Blazers fans should be happy with this deal. Fans have long complained about the team not being active in attracting free agents or making trades. Under Dundon, the Hurricanes have been very aggressive with free agents (RFAs as well as UFAs) and trades.

  12. Please move the 'Canes to Portland! Not an NHL fan, just want more sports in the city to drive interest in bringing an MLB expansion team.

  13. You cant change Pacific Northwest weather. Attracting free agents is still going to be a challenge, but if this guy is as invested in the Blazers as he is in the Hurricanes that certainly cant hurt.

  14. 2:51 Did you forget the Charlotte Hornets? They'll do everything in their power to persuade enough owners to block a move into their state!

3:00 If we ignore college basketball. Hurricanes hockey lives in the shadows of North Carolina State basketball.

  15. There is a lot of basketball in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill market. It is college basketball. I don’t see people in that area getting behind a NBA team.

  16. Top Golf expanded too much too fast. When it was a destination activity, it worked, but now that it is in every city, it competes with too many other forms of entertainment. With what it costs to build a Top Golf and the amount of land needed, they can’t charge enough to make money.

  17. This is actually not concerning or alarming for the TrailBlazers as we speak. It’s more of the other way around as in the matter of “Will the Carolina Hurricanes move to Portland & renovate the Moda Center to house both the Trailblazers & (NHL team)? Love your videos Brodie! & keep crushing it!!!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽

  18. Just got back from watching the Portland Beavers play. I love triple A baseball!
Oh wait, that team is gone! Another owner who bought a team swore they were in it for good and moved it!

You can’t trust owners or the league!

  20. Don't go woke DEI replacing the GM,Blazers have a good core, they don't need to follow the Wizards social justice warrior posturing with an inept GM route and get robbed blind

  21. Hey Brodie is Tom Dundon responsible for robbing CT of our Whalers? Btw I saw the thumbnail and I thought you photoshopped yourself.

  22. There is an uncanny resemblance between the Carolina hurricanes logo, and the Portland Trailblazers
