After reading the article on the DK sports website it does make sense to see the pens stay pat. Nearly everyone in the top 10 will be very hard pressed to give their picks up
Good morning DK & Taylor, I have two thoughts….first, whomever we draft at 11& 12, with say Ekland, Atiktson, and a couple others "supposedly " being around those picks, where would you rank them in our farm system? Would, ie, they be considered our top 2 prospects all of the sudden or perhaps 2 of the top 5/6 prospects?
Secondly, imho, I was split on which pick I thought would be best for our team; first, this years, which we have. The talent isn't what next year is but we have the extra guy in our system learning and developing already. Or secondly, next year's pick, which many believe will be much later, that the Rangers will find their game with Sully & all, and be the team 2 wins from the Cup Finals, which would leave us with pick…..say 25-32. Now, next year the draft is much deeper so a pick at 12 this year may be equivalent to say pick 25 or so? BUUUUUT, I don't believe the Rangers will be that team. Yes, they have 1 of the top 3 goalies in the world, but the others will be 2 years older, lost a key player to Anaheim, and there is more turmoil going on in NY then what's been leaked saying all this I don't think they'll be as good as people think. Maybe they finish 20-23 and if more issues happen again, they could slip into the very top of the draft which gives us another lottery(yes only 10 spots but…..) What that does is give us a much better prospect but waiting another year for him minimum. I guess I'm slightly leaning towards wishing for next years pick as every 21 years the Pens seem to get that generational player lol Sorry this is long winded. Thoughts DK? Taylor? We always seemed to have the attitude of plug and play, next man up. If they make a mistake, trade them. If they cost too much money, dump them. I've always liked watching the characters and the guys with skill. Remember when Mario shagged the puck forever, then he gave it to Jaromir and he did the same thing? Drafting guys is not about filling a position, it's about finding guys with the potential of being good as a pro. It's no longer about deserving to be a Penguin. It's about being part of the team that makes the Penguins great.

For my money we've started very late with this rebuilding (=getting younger) process. We are I think two years behind schedule. Draft the best you can and build. It'd be nice if Sid gets to have a go in the playoffs with them.. but I think it's far more likely we need to draft to build for the post Sid era.
Anyone intent on keeping both Rust and Rakell needs to realise that it can net you players that we need for when Crosby stops. So much depends on Sid being one of the greatest players of all time and when that ends… I don't want the Penguins to have nothing but the final years of an aging Rakell and Rust to show for it. No matter how much I loooove that those guys are Penguins. An absolutely fantastic move by Hextall to acquire and sign RR at the time which in no way makes up for everything else.
That was my knock on Sully, especially in later years. Basically no-one under 28 need apply.

I'd trade malkin in a minute in fact I would have traded him 3 or 4 years ago when he had value ! not even the great Montreal teams of yesteryear could win with letang and karlson on the team ! karlson must go !

Why rush a 19 year old to play for a garbage team? Go back to junior, play a full season , go to a world juniors and get him ready for a season in WBS.
You dummies don’t get it, no need to rush these kids, let them develop.
Why are we considering blowing things up the dumb or stupid path? Next year Crosby will be 38 Malkin will be 39 and likely his last year. So in this scenario lets say Crosby plays two more years or two more at his current pace. We will 100% need to find a new 2C while also needing a big revamp of the bottom 6 and a complete overhaul of the defence as currently our best left hand D under contract is Ryan Shea, P.O Joseph,Ryan Graves ( Take your pick who's the best of those 3 ) And that isn't even mentioning our goaltending problem. The current best team in the league is Florida and if anyone thinks we are close or in a 1-2 year window away from being as good or better than Florida you are insane. The plan Dubas told about is he wants to return the team to Contending asap. The fastest way to do that is rebuilding.
