  1. Every once in a while a quality player will slip through the cracks and become a decent player on his own ala Cooley. But more times than not, these Ranger prospects are ASS. I truly don't understand ownership's and management's allegiance to Jed Ortmeyer as head of player development for the past 8 years. There's a lot of booboos on his resume. He's been handed 8 first round picks with very little to show for it.

  2. If the Rangers are to take a step forward the development of the young players will be a focus of a transition year. The most important aspect of development is high level coaching. Ortmeyer does not develop players. He is a liaison person who gets them set up with trainers, nutritionists & others to help them make the transition to the pros. His job is to monitor their progression after the draft by consulting with minor coaches during their journey. Take Spence for instance. His progression will depend on what he learns at Michigan. The wild card is Perreault. We'll see in training camp how his game translates to the NHL. He may have to start in the AHL & that is OK
