JJ Peterka TRADED to Utah Mammoth | The Jeremy and Joe Show

JJ Peterka TRADED to Utah Mammoth | The Jeremy and Joe Show

Jeremy and Sal react to the breaking news that the Buffalo Sabres have traded young star forward JJ Peterka to the Utah Mammoth for D Michael Kesselring and F Josh Doan. The guys start off by discussing the return for Peterka, and how it seems light for a player of Peterka’s status and age. They then dive into what the deal shows fans about the Sabres thought process, and Joe points out three points it reinforces. Then they consider the possibility that Peterka is the first domino to fall in a series of stars asking out of Buffalo. They then move on to point out that this cannot be the last move for the Sabres, and they will absolutely have to replace Peterka’s offensive production. Joe wonders if this means the Bowen Byram trade will need to be for a top 6 forward.

  1. He’s got some pluses and minuses with this team needs is net presence to help the power play. Guys who are hard to play against who give a crap in their own end. He’s another young players who’s always been the best player on their team growing up and had the right to do whatever they wanted now they need to play a structure play in the NL where that shit doesn’t fly and they struggle because they’re trying to accumulate points. You hear this in interviews from Dahlin and Tage how they’re learning to play an NHL system Dahlin mentioned we need to understand offense comes from defense. You can still get your points. It told me they were worried about their points. I know this what they were doing isn’t working change it.
I’m fine with the move. I hope they bring in a productive veteran forward and don’t fall into well. Quinn can take his spot. I don’t deserve the trust or the patience, but I’m not gonna freak out yet.

  2. Fire adams today! This is the worst trade in the teams history. No part of this deal is good for the sabres. Stupid.

  3. I don't mind this trade in isolation, especially Kesselring. But with Byram, Quinn, and our 1st we'd better do some heavy lifting in the top six now. Maybe Byram and Rosen for J.Neighbours (complementary LW1)? Quinn, Ostlund, 1.09 for Rossi (shift Kulich to LW2)? Deals subject to tweaks of course. But with those coming next I'd be much happier about the whole process. If we get something meh for Byram, keep 1.09, and re-sign Quinn I'll be much less optimistic. But it certainly feels like at least we should allocate Peterka's $ to Rossi and solidify C. Then look for a well-rounded winger who can hold his own on the top line.

  4. This was a hockey trade that benefitted both teams. WGR is nothing more than reactive social media parrots. Sal is the only person who is rational at that station.

  5. I'm not a SABRE fan at all but thinking logically first off who can Adams get in return for Peterka when NO ONE WANTS TO COME TO BUFFALO. This limits his trading partners. I

  6. I love the trade. 7.5 for Peterka is an overpayment, and getting Power a defense partner was the most glaring team need. Matt Fairburn just identified Kesselring in an article a couple days ago as an ideal player to get in a potential Peterka trade. I don’t understand the whining.

  7. They did the same nonsense with Eichel. Oh you don’t want to be here??? Too bad, we’re not moving you. Period. News flash, players don’t want to be in Buffalo. Neither do I.

  8. The thing I don't understand is; is there not more value in a 26 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? I agree, it seems like they did JJ a favor.

  9. Kulich is more valuable than Peterka. Tuch is worth more than Peterka. Sneaky Joe your take is predictable in its hyper negativity. Those two are better long termers than Peterka. And you have two AHL studs coming up soon, both who can play center. They desperately needed a top 4 right handed D.

  10. What a joke. All a player has to do it cry a little and can get out. You need a top six forward and you trade one. NICE JOB KEVIN. Kevin is like Biden. Hes being led around by the nose and told what to do. The only thing we’re missing is Jill saying good job joe you answered all the questions. This franchise is cooked. I hope the stands will show how good a job Kevin is doing # SABRES DEVELOPMENTAL TEAM FOR THE NHL

  11. wow they traded a young up & coming star who it seems would rather be anywhere than here to accept an extension in Utah

  12. What's the under/over on when JJ wins a cup. Great day for JJ to get the hell out of this disaster. Best day of a young star is the day he gets traded out of the joke that is the Buffalo Sabres.

  13. JJ scored more goals in the 1st half of last season than both of the guys we acquired have scored conbined their entire NHL careers. The dumpster fire continues. The only guarantee is that anyone who is anyone wants out of Buffalo.

  14. So we didn’t try to improve the roster for 5 years so we could let the kids play and have money to keep them when it was their turn. Now we go and trade the guy who produced and developed better than the rest. I’m not even a huge JJ fan but this pisses me off. I hope the media pounds them on the daily if they don’t use their cap space again.

  15. As of now our left side consists of Zucker, Benson, Greenway & Malenstyn. That is a joke. Another year of shoving Greenway up on the 2nd / 3rd line where he doesnt belong. Lets see what they do to fill the void. Im guessing nothing because nobody wants to come to shithole Buffalo.

  16. So glad we saved all that cap space for all these years because of the RFAs we need to sign who are now no longer on the team at all! Masterclass in management.

  17. You all are sleeping on Doan. I am putting it out everywhere. Kid is a stud. Hardest working most relentless player on the team. Let this play out. We are happy in Utah, but bummed to miss out on what Doan will become

  18. Have to imagine a huge move must be coming. Has to be the case. Or they’re then worse than last year. Byram and or 9th overall. They cant start season without a top 6 forward. Deal would have been fine with one more piece. Can’t believe they didn’t ask for crouse at least. It’s whatever. We (they) suck anyway.

  19. Peterka was close to putting up a point a game in the NHL. He has some defensive deficiencies but he’s clearly the best player in the trade and when you give up the best player in a trade you lose the trade. Given the injury history of the players involved, we also lost the Cozens trade. The Sabres are not going to turn around this mess making moves like this, they could’ve told his agent to take a hike, forced Peterka to play out his contract and likely moved him for a similar return down the line. This just wasn’t a good enough return for a good young player with potential. The future of Sabres hockey is perennially drafting in the top five and missing the playoffs every season. I don’t see this turning around in the future, we keep losing trades and we aren’t developing players. The stock is down…

  20. Unless I’m mistaken about Kesselring, he’s pretty high in Primary Assists. If that’s true, a lot of that could come as a result of that “Shoot all the time” mentality.

Nothing wrong with that if it results in Tips or juicy Rebound Goals, let alone occasional goals for himself.

  21. I'm imaging all the teams that were really interested in a player like him and thinking, "We could have done better. Easily. WTF?"

  22. Loved Peterka, not sure about this but like anything, I will let it play out and see what happens before passing judgement.

  23. Sal you are awesome, your point about the compensation for offer sheeting Peterka is so valid- maybe we should give Adams credit for getting two NHL bodies as compensation

  24. I don’t know anything about Hockey. But i know allot about the NFL, and the one thing i’ve learned is to never trust a radio personality or an “analyst”.

  25. I think the thought process on LH RH D is wrong. The position should prioritize DEFENDING not what side a player should be on to make passes. It should be what side does a player defend the best on.

  26. Gotta love how Adams keeps flip flopping every offseason. Speed 1 year. Size the next. Maybe if he’d stop spending his 1st round picks on small, skilled forwards who aren’t particular fast, some of these issues would solve themselves. 5 years in and I still have no idea what type of team he’s trying to build here.

  27. Trainwreck. They had 100% of the leverage on JJ for 4 years. A 23 year old proven top 6 forward only trending up. They had no reason to rush anything that wasn’t great value. They instead sprung into action to deal him for Utahs 5th best D man and a grinder.

KA again showing why we wanted him gone. And he showed us why he stays. Bc he’s willing to not pay to the salary cap and trade off his best assets to do so.

  28. We haven't been in the playoffs for 14 years. Something had to be done. J.J. is not a franchise type player. He can't carry the team. He will not take the Sabers to the promise land.

  29. Pegula and Kevyn Adams are killing this club, not just the team..the club. If players want out they just say "I don't want to be here" and that seems to be the golden phrase that hypnotizes Adams to trade them asap. He literally said within 48 hours "I feel bad for the fans because the media is putting out a lot of misinformation", well….looks like none of that media was misinformed. The clubs issue sits in the hands of one person, Pegula. Mr.Answerisintheroom. I would bet that if they don't make the playoffs in this coming season, you will have players like Dahlin, Thompson, Tuch, etc wanting out. Then its too late to change GMs

  30. Also what's GMKA point in getting all these young guys just to send them to rochester for a couple years then finally calling them up sucking them letting them leave?? TF is that bs? GMKA has got to gooo!!

edit: I mean sucking as a whole team not individually

  31. We got tougher, better defensively, maybe this improves Power's game, and helps our goalies. Love Peterka's scoring but we already scored well. I'll take this trade.
