Recently News Broke about Luke Hughes and A Possible 5 YEAR Contract With The NJ Devils that would have Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes becoming free agents in the same year 2030. This news comes with a lot of questions and the main one is Will they both sign extensions with the NJ Devils or is this part of their master plan to sign with brother Quinn Hughes currently playing for the Vancouver Canucks.
With the Salary Cap going up a good amount each year, teams can see this news and begin to find ways to sign all 3 Hughes brothers.

The timing before the holiday weekend feels like trying to apply pressure on one side or the other.
Fitz has been the invisible GM during the regular season but I was hoping this offseason would help me decide if he is a bad GM or a good GM
There is no way the Devils would agree to a 5 year deal AND THE AGENT KNOWS THIS. It isn't just Jack that comes due that year, it is also Timo AND Bratt. This is just a ploy to get more money for the 8 year deal. The Devils are not going to have to signed the ENTIRE CORE in one summer, there just isn't enough cap space to go around.
I really don't know what will happen I don't want the devils to lose both Jack or luke and things go south again for us.
Will be interesting to see how long this drags out and how badly the master negotiator Fitz screws the situation up. Have a bad feeling if Luke holds out Fitz will cave big time.
Hopefully it's just a threat by the agent to get NJD/Fitz to pay more AAV on a 6 to 8 year deal. That's best case scenario. If they're serious about lining up terms and Luke taking 5 years or less that is worrisome, obviously. If that does come to pass, mgmt cannot continue to be passive with a ticking clock (which could be a blessing in disguise, but I'd hate to lose the Hughes bros to another team like Detroit in 2030, for example).
On the flip side of the argument, if that is what they are pushing for, I’m all for it. It incentivizes Fitz to start making move now moves rather than slow tinkering with the roster. Jacks extremely competitive and I imagine the thought process is that if we’re still spinning our wheels, they’ll go elsewhere but if we’re winning, they’ll want to stay. So, in a weird way, I almost like that this is what Luke is asking for so that more aggressive moves will be made by Fitz or if he fumbles, he’s gone and we go in a new direction.
Didn’t think that Luke would sign longer than 6 yrs….something like 6 x 8.85mil AAV deal. It hurts the Devils long-term as they won’t be able to resign both without mortgaging the team’s future. Fitz better take care of business or he’s gone…
I forgot that one guy from NHL network. I forgot his name, but he said that he really believes within the next year the Devils are gonna try to acquire Quinn as best as they can. If they do that, whether it’s temporary and doesn’t last long, I really think the devils are gonna try to do something at least for the next few years for the time being no matter what happens after all three of their contrast expire is going to happen, but I believe 2 that they’re gonna try and do something right now until next year.
I have not been crazy about Fitz the past 2 seasons, more with what he didn't do at the trade deadline. I feel like he's constantly put in positions where he's left holding the bag, and this is no different. 2 years ago, no goalie was added until later in the season when it was clear early on one was needed. Last season, the trade deadline was a complete failure. The players are sending a message to management with this move. Fitz has to make big swings during the season which I don't think he's capable of doing. To play Devils advocate "pun intended" how many 82 game seasons can Jack play in the next 5 years? If he gets injured again, my throught process is move him before his value drops any further and get a haul in return. If that means Luke is included in that deal as well, so be it.
It's not a concern…so the 5 year deal and s if they aren't at least in the ECF by year 3 and building then you trade the brothers Hughes in year 4. They haven't proved they can play a full healthy season let alone go on a deep playoff run, they may not even have a cup run in them.
Who cares if it’s 5 years and him and Jack can walk at the same time. By then we will have Quinn signed long term.
If Jack or Luke do NOT earn a Stanley Cup by the time their contracts end (regardless when Luke's is renegotiated), I could definitely imagine their leaving for a Cup-bound team. (BIG sigh)
What a nightmare if Fitz signs him to that 5 yr deal, gives them all the power and what team would have that much cap space to sign all three, im sure they’d finagle some bs like Parise and Suter did with Wild.. this is not good for fitz
Not sure what is going to happen, but I can’t see any team having the money to spend on all three!
Tom Fitzgerald blows. That is all.
So Jake Allen gets a 5yr contract but Luke Hughes doesn't fitz don't know what he's doing
Luke Hughes is bluffing! He's doesn't actually want a 5 year deal. He wants maximum term. The only reason why he's doing this is because he wants to get as much money out of the Devils as possible. I think it's called a squeeze play.
