I am a very upbeat leaf fan, and I think we have a good chance to go far still, probably not winning the cup but a 3rd or finals appearance hopefully 🤞

I give the leafs a 20% chance to make the playoffs. A first round exit would be a major achievement this season.
Think about it this way , when Marner had the puck and was dangling and skating around then lost the puck Matthews never even touched the puck his entire shift.
Marner should NEVER have been on Matthews line or on TOR period.
The fit was wrong 100%.
When you have a 70 goal scorer like Matthews he needs to have the puck the most on his line .
You will see the EXACT Marner problem on VGK, great regular season then Playoffs his play style is just not good.

Well Hockey Guy I think its time to forget about Marner's exodus and move on its becoming incredibly redundant bringing up this issue. That horse has left the stable time to move on with everybody concerned . There was a bigger reason why Marner and it was not for the public to know….

Only thing they won't trade a top dman(rielly) for another top dman. Most teams won't do this. But they could trade him for the 2nd line center then need.
Nylandr is the definition of playoff leafs, no hitting, no stick checking, no blocking shots, no backchecking, no intensity
Last 5 years in playoffs points total I believe the leader is Nylander over Marner by one point.
Matthews will never reach 50 goals per season again. Nothing to do without Marner but all to do with Knies. The nature of Matthews' game has changed. Sure, he'll snipe a few but having a big body like Knies to chip it in the net is much more effective. Marner had 102points last season? Matthews will have 128 points. 46 goals and 82 assists.
The problem with marner was that he was so good at (almost) everything that they'd play him too much. Then, he'd get outmatched physically every time push came to shove. That said, it's pretty dumb to say we'll be better without him. I would've rather seen Nylander get traded for a high grade 2C or top 2/4 D
Marner sucked in the playoffs. Who cares if they make the playoffs but lose in the 1st round! I think they are a better team without Marner.

At least 2 games in their 7 game series against the eventual champ, they just did not show up. They really could be argued as the 2nd best team in the playoffs last season based on giving the champ the most trouble. It's psychological and they took a step forward from all those first round exits. They are a well rounded team that still has starpower. They still have a legit shot at a cup.

Stats already shows Mathews scores more without Marner on his line…
Why? Because the opposing Dmen just stand on Mathews toes and he is shut down..
Put an elite scoring threat beside Mathews ,,, like ROBERTSON is ,,,, and then the opposing Dmen are screwed… and Mathews has freedom to skate, move ,shoot amd score…
2 elite scorers is the only way to beat every D-core..
1 passer and 1 scorer… weell, we have seen that for over half a decade without results…
