  1. I agree that Aatu Raty is a huge wildcard. he's young and his upside potential is still largely unknown in the NHL. He did a great job for the short term being our #2 centre behind Suter when EP40 and Chytil were both injured late, and scored some HUGE clutch goals for us, particularly the start of the 3 goal last minute record breaking rally vs the Stars in Dallas late in the season to keep the playoff hopes alive 1 more day. They don't get much more clutch then initiating a at the time season saving, record setting comeback!

That said, that was a short stretch of games late in the season, and could he keep that up for the grind of an 82 game schedule as a full time 2C? We don't know, and that's the most honest answer anyone can give. If we have nothing better to explore is it worth giving him a shot at it and see if he can rise to the occasion all season long? Certainly. If we won't trust our own developed talent, then why bother having Manny there and an AHL team in Abbotsford? Just plunk our prospects wherever and do whatever and who cares as they'll never be allowed a chance anyways, so investing in them is a waste. If we're going to invest in developing them, then LET THEM PLAY and give them A CHANCE to PROVE themselves. If they succeed, great, we can take the win. If they don't, there's always another rising through the system to give a shot. If they're a year or 2 out yet, there's always bringing in a veteran rental for that period who can even mentor the kids working their way into the lineup, filling double duty as a veteran filler, and a veteran stabilizer/role player. IMO that's what Kane should do for us this year and the next few, hole the fort and mentor in the kids like Raty, Baines, Lekerimakki and Karlssen that all have the potential to be full time NHL forwards at least, if not even top 6 forwards at some point.
