Harlan High School junior Tate Taylor pulled off an upset at Texas’s 2025 UIL 6A State Championships, running a wind-legal 9.92 for an ALL-TIME 100m National Record for the win.
He beat favorite Brayden Williams who finished second in 10.00. In total, five athletes ran under 10.20.

The talent in the US right now in high school is incredible. Kid in California ran a wind legal 10.01 in the preliminaries last weekend. Add that to the 9.92 and the 10.01 from this meet. Look out world!

The kid in lane 6 is the freshman, right? Do any track people here know how growing taller might affect his speed/performance? I canāt get a good idea of his height with this camera angle. Iām just curious. In basketball, I can think of a few guys who grew a lot as teens/late teens to their benefit. Pippen for example. He was in college when he grew six or seven inches. Iām curious about how the same growth spurt would affect a sprinter who is so fast as a freshman. Thanks.
