  1. as an oilers fan I have to say, Anze has always been an absolute offensive weapon, top class defensively, smart, tough to knock off the puck, a class act….just a complete package. a pleasure to watch.

  2. Kopitar is easily the greatest King of all time which is an obvious distinction from the most talented player ever to have played for the Kings. He is the longest tenured, most consistent, one of the most beloved, elite in all aspects, and his name appears constantly in Kings record books. I was there for Dustin Brown's retirement ceremony, and I will be there for Kopitar, Quick, and Doughty's. He is an all-time Kings great no matter how you interpret his career, leadership, or impact.

There's no doubt that the captaincy is one of the weakest aspects of Kopitar's legacy/career. It sucks that it coincided with the team's regression after their cup winning/contending years which is largely outside his control, but I would say he was okay to decent at best as a captain. It doesn't help that he got the captaincy through the controversy of taking it from Brown, who I would regard as the Kings' greatest captain in franchise history, and having to follow that on team that was on the downswing.

  3. Kopitar is a favorite in our house…so much so we named our dog after him. We have Kopii (with two 'i"s as a nod to his #11). I was there for his first game, when he actually scored two goals…AND he accidentally drilled Rob Blake with the puck when he tried to slap it into the offensive zone, but missed and hit Blake hard. Legend.

  4. I remember when he was drafted. The commentators were godsmacked that he kept dropping. They could only speculate it’s because he’s from Slovenia and nobody knew much about Slovenian hockey.
