Giroux would rack up points against low their teams. Then disappear anytime The Flyers needed a clutch goal in the playoffs. Been saying this since 2012. Flyers haven't had a legitimate Captain since Pronger. Tochett should strip all letters this season until they are earned.
And Turned a corner? With Couturier as Captain? One of the same guys in the previous leader group.
Flyers have the exact same issue now. Building a team ass backward with no legit 1C or 1D. And blew every chance they had st a Celebrini, Misa, McTavish, or the countless other top5 Center draft picks over the past 7 years worth building around. Even if Michkov turns into Kucherov, Flyers have who exactly to build around with Michkov? Luchanko? Nesbitt? That's the Stanley Cup winning 1C Philadelphia management sees in the future? It's Atrociously ridiculous. This team in no fuckin universe should be anywhere near going after a playoff spot. They're GAURANTEED to pick in draft purgatory again and miss the playoffs. Or get embarrassingly bounced in the first round and then pick in draft purgatory.
Another half assed rebuild on the fly because ComCast is too scared to sacrifice ticket revenue for a couple of seasons to build a legit contender.
That's the sad fuckin truth of Philadelphia hockey. And the low IQ drones will scream about any dissent from the same failed rebuild strategy we just watched the past 3 GMs run into the fuckin ground.
Taking Luchanko over Buium.
Taking York over Caufield.
Taking Nesbitt over C.Reschny/C. Bear.
And probably thw same low IQ scouting department who drafted guys like Rubstov, O'Brien, Morin, and the countless other Flyers "future stars" mediocre, overhyped, low ceiling prospects they pump up every season. Anyone else remember when Ratcliffe, Tuomalla, and Desnoyers were going to be "elite" talents?
Philadelphia constantly reaches past the consensus draft picks and consistently loses out by doing so. How much better is this team if they just drafted the next consensus draft pick?
Buium, Caufield, and Michkov will be/already are SIGNIFICANTLY better players than York and Luchanko.
Buium is already a favorite for The Calder this year.
So, how many more elite ceiling prospects are The Flyers going to reach over for average ceiling prospects?
I mean why tf did they trade B. Schenn? For Farabee and Frost? That worked out well. Schenn is better then any Center we've had in Philadelphia in 5+ years.
Absolutely ridiculous. 🤦🏻♂️🤡
Funny how the truth comes out. Now Giroux is in Ottawa cashing in and driving that locker room insane. Making the playoffs just to get bounced in the first round. Make it make sense.
Dale Weises opinion is what Patches O'Houlahan would call "As useful as a poopy flavored lolipop"
no surprise, just look at Ottawa when he arrived he had the mandate to help young people to play the good way but instead of being that, he just wanted to score points to extend his career….
I always thought Giroux should have had an A, at most. I remember Pronger called him out in 2010 or 2011. Not like Weis did anything as a Flyer, but I agree with him on this.
I believe him.
Do Weiss’ comments surprise anyone? Did you forget the comments Tortorella made when he joined the team? Stating how the team and the locker room culture was disjointed and negative.
Giroux never impressed me as a player nor as a captain.
Still doesn’t.
What a joke
Some want G to come back home, go figure
It was probably a mix of issues. Weise was an honest, hard working player and this is his honest opinion. Never thought we were going anywhere with Giroux and Jake as leaders. The other factor was of course incompetent talent assessment. How many missed draftpicks. Just got lucky when Michkov fell on their lap. Hope Torts was able to change the culture when he was here, he saw this when he was hired. Having a veteran coach like Tocchet, will help.
Coots is no Captain either..too quiet
If thats the case then I guess why culture has been painted upon everything.
Heresay.
I mean, the same rumor was out there that Kevin Hayes was trying to take over the locker room when he signed and Giroux wasn’t having it. We all know Richards and Carter had issues with Laviolette but later there was a rift between Pronger and Richards.
The fact that they barely made the playoffs during his captaincy tells you he was either an underachiever or not a good captain.
It’s obvious there were issues here.. and the flyers have been a train wreck for a decade or more now- but not sure id really want the culture of the Blackhawk’s either? Especially all the shit that happened with them
This is huge criticism coming from a respected NHL player who almost scored 30 points one time.
Problem is the Flyers always draft 3rd and 4th liners and third pairing D and 2 good players are not enough
Not a fan of actions like this. But I am not overly shocked. I am a rare one but o wanted them to trade g back in 2015. Not because of his play or personality, but I thought they were better off rebuilding vs retooling. At that time, g would have gotten them a haul and bottomed the team out for what may have been 2-3 bad years but high draft picks. Ten years later, here we are….
Hackstool was also horrendous, as was hexy and failure Homer WHO THE FUCKING franchise PROMOTED TO PRESIDENT AFTER DESTROYING THE TEAM!!
Dale is 100% correct…when Torts came here he even mentioned how bad the room was and certain "things" needed to be corrected. Giroux is an all time Flyer but also an all time worst captain
It was Kimmo Timonen, who likely should have received the "C" when it was handed to G ahead of schedule, who was the real leader of the Flyers during that era. That mantle was then handed over to Simmer and Sarge, so I think it could more reasonably said that the captaincy of the Flyers has largely been a ceremonial title for this organization in recent decades, perhaps continuing on to recent times.
I am just not entirely certain however, that Dale Weiss is the oracle to whom I would turn to for insight, simply because he was surrounded by good, honest players once in his career. But hopefully his comments were enough to draw some eyeballs your direction.
the same chicago team who swept a SA under the rug?
Chicago "one of the best cultures in hockey" yeeeeah about that
I always suspected there was a bad room. Giroux is an amazing talent. He will never win anywhere for the same reason Embiid won't win. Missing grit, tenacity and true leadership. He is the least successful, long tenured captain in Flyers history. No one can argue that fact.
Oh I could see it being the case. But realistically, they haven’t had players who have consistently put the puck in the net, especially when up against a really tough goaltender. The other stuff is far too many mistakes defensively and giving the puck away.
Weiss was absolutely horrible.. Almost useless
Neither Giroux of Vorecek were great goal scorers. Yeah they could pass and get the assist but w/o PP points they were 2nd and 3rd liners on good teams. When Weiss was in Philly they expected him to fight which was hilarious. He was tough but not a fighter. Weiss was used appropriately with every other team by the Flyers. Nobody wants to play in Philly anymore. They hire Torts, first rounders don’t want to play in Philly and the corporate owners suck the blood of the fans.
Sounds like Weise was pretty much spot on.
Can't stand the Flyers, but ya'll are seriously in the comments putting management's blunders on Giroux? He's far down the list of problems for your dumpster fire organization. His mistake was not departing Philly 5-7 years sooner than that trade.
