We continue our march towards hockey with more player previews. Today we speak about a few newcomers. John Gibson is the newest goalie to join the Detroit Red Wings in their attempt at resolving their goalie woes — But how much hope is reasonable? James van Riemsdyk looks to provide a strong net front presence down the lineup — except he might be playing LW1 out of neccesity.     if his vision has cleared net front presence from the opposition he will make a huge difference in goal;🫤 im sure todd has already pointed that out to the team especially on the pk and 5×5?!🤷‍♂️💪LGRW💪👍

    We still need a top four forward and a top four D. if we don't make any further moves prior to the season we will be out of the playoffs.

    I'll be surprised if Kasper doesn't go back to line 1 and Copp starts the season as 2C. Both lines were quite productive until Copp got hurt. Fire away

    Gibson – will be a difference to some extent if he can stay healthy. He has been set up as an injured lower body for a long time. A healthy Gibson will lift his team regardless of which 5 are in front of him, proof is his last club. Is Gibson the factor that takes the team to the playoffs, no is my answer.

    JVR – I have already stated before that I have no problem seeing him play top line. JVR is a notorious scorer where an average of 20 goals is not at all out of the question. The most likely thing is that he will go up and down the lines.

    Soderblom – No for love of the world, that is a hard no. Soderblom played in the top line when Copp & Compher both got injured because Kasper was moved to the 2nd line to widen a thin team. When we see Soderblom in the top line, they are proof that RW has no depth in their pipe, is there really no one better to get up from GR? Soderblom roof is lower 6 no more no less.

    Gibson is likely to follow the same trajectory as Lyon and Husso: Looks good at first but after being shelled and hung out to dry by the team in front of him he'll run out of gas by Christmas.

    Who knows how he will do. Poor guy will be in a shooting gallery. Even if he had a bad year it won’t be his fault. Detroits defense sucks and Steve isn’t really doing anything about it. It’s ironic though because he won his cups by playing defense like Scotty taught him.

    If you’re expecting Martin Brodeur you’re going to be disappointed. If you’re expecting a solid stable net presence you’ll probably be happy. He’s not going to sole handedly get us into the playoffs.

    I think people forget Soderblom is a 6th-round pick. If we get 15 to 30 points out of him, I'll be happy. Anything more is just icing on the cake

    Talbot played 47 games last season, I don't think Gibson will get over-played this season, just to avoid riding him too hard. I have them splitting 45-37ish, if Gibson can stay healthy and then be refreshed long term next season then even better until Cossa and Augustine are ready.

    50 games would be good for Gibson. Need to see at least 10 games out of Cossa also.

    It's time to start testing this kid to see what they got especially with another goalie coming in right behind him.

    I believe Gibson will fail, Cammy will be hurt, Michal Postava will get a call up vs Cossa and he will dominate the net. Not sure what the Wings are doing with Guimond.

    Like every other goalie the Wings have had the past few years, he will start good and then fade once his confidence gets shattered by the horrible defense in front of him. Unless the Wings had an elite goalie in his prime, goalies can't do that much behind a defense that only has 2 (Seider/Edvinsson) quality defensemen. Johansson has potential but he's not a quality top 4 at this point and the rest are complete garbage and bottom pairing level at best.

    Yet another off-season that Yzerman has wasted by not improving the defense which means another year without playoffs.
