Just over three weeks after he was acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks, Thomas Bordeleau has signed a one-year deal with the New Jersey Devils worth the NHL minimum $775k. Bordeleau, 23, could have bargained for more in terms of salary and contract length, yet the Devils didn’t see it coming. Despite his limited NHL experience, Bordeleau’s potential is clear: he can make the Devils roster as a bottom-six center if he performs well at training camp and preseason. His University of Michigan background and strong offensive skills, combined with the team’s current struggles, offer a real opportunity. The Devils’ center depth is critical, especially offensively, making Bordeleau a valuable addition. With Hughes, Hischier, and Glass expected to fill the four-center role, Bordeleau will play alongside Ondrej Palat, Dawson Mercer, and Arseniy Gritsyuk, while Paul Cotter and Juho Lammikko fill the fourth line. This move represents an upside for the Devils, even though it comes with no guaranteed No. 3 center position.
