no big secret. vgk got a 'golden' expansion draft like no other in nhl history with no other expansion draft to pick from. that plus a free cap to work with = instant success. and to keep success going vgk uses ltir to add players every tdl. that is the key to vgk success. thank bettman for that. for $ mil .expansion fee in '70's you rot as an expansion franchise. for $ 550 mil. 2015 price you are guaranteed instant success.
Does Vegas win another Stanley Cup in the next few season? Let me know in the comments
Handed the keys to the kingdom right away
There is a 3rd reason for season #1. Certain teams (ie St. Louis & Nashville) opted to protect players that wouldn't be UFA's for a while over players that would be a UFA a year from then.
It’s funny how everybody (especially the so called experts) said from the beginning that Vegas would be bottom feeders while I thought from the start that they had a really good team after the expansion and said they would make the playoffs. However, I could never have guessed they’d end up going to the finals. 😅
