Connor McDavid’s upcoming contract could change the entire NHL. Reports suggest he’s negotiating a record-breaking deal worth up to $17.5 million per year, making it the highest salary in league history. That new standard is putting massive pressure on the Toronto Maple Leafs—and on Auston Matthews’ next contract.
For Matthews, Toronto’s captain and one of the NHL’s best goal scorers, McDavid’s deal could mean a huge raise in his future negotiations. But with the salary cap set at $95.5 million, keeping both star power and depth players may become nearly impossible for the Leafs. Could this be the beginning of Matthews’ exit from Toronto?

McDavid will not stay in Edmonton.. Oilers Management is a Train Wreck.. Look at the goaltending for a starting point.. Horrible, both of them… No Stanley Cup coming to Edmonton.. He will leave.
You're never going to see Mathews and McDavid on the same team in their primes. Way to much money that would be 40% of Toronto's cap.
Connor McDavid is leaving Edmonton now n nobody will ever change his mind.He doesn't even care what Lauren Kyle has to say about it she is definitely not his boss Connor McDavid can make up his own mind
Lauren Kyle is going to stay in Edmonton because of her new business that she just opened up downtown n Connor McDavid does not care about anything but what is happening to him.Connor McDavid just wants to be happy n leaving Edmonton will make him very happy
Bottom line is, do these players want to win or just make money. These 2 have made enough money already in their careers for their kids and their grandchildren to live comfortably for life. Now it is just coming down to greed and ego. They need to figure out where their heart is, where they want to win, leave money on the table so that team can build a true championship team that has a balanced roster. If they were smart they would do it in Toronto. To bring a cup to Toronto would truly give them God status. They would still be making millions into their 70's in endorsements.
Matthew's ain't no McDavid
somebody please take your head out of that shady spot and read the room……….homelessness……….food banks……………Liberal government……………………..you have already priced the true fans out of the building…………………..time for a reality cheque………………….and no that's not a spelling error
..Leafs have paid their way out of contention…Mathews has proven he is unable to lead the team lets see what moving Mitch does for Mathews…the only team that Connor could win with is the Panthers…they don`t need him..
