He's playing the long game. I think he's acquired a lot of interesting pieces. Next year is the time to add expensive talent.
If KD can move Laurent for a Zary or Evangelista level player to allow for young players who aren't ready to spend a year in Rockford, sign a Roslovic for an extra 20 goal scorer. So after 2025 when the over 30 players are gone there is still some veterans that can score goals are on the roster.
Look, there was NO ONE for Davidson TO SIGN – what don't Hawks fans understand about that??? This is easily one of the WORST UFA classes I can remember and I've been a Hawks fan since the early 80's.. This summer has been brutal on most GM's, teams and their fans so it's NOT just the Hawks – you can bet there are other GM's out there that would love to improve their team but they can't because THERE IS NO ONE to sign… I mean, you don't sign guys "just to sign them" – that's NOT how it works – nor do you make trades "just to make trades"….
Keep in mind, you're going to want to keep some roster spots open because there is going to be a lot of competition among these kids next month and you don't know what you have until you see it – so you don't want to sign a guy unless you intend on using him, and even then you'd really want to be careful. Also, the Hawks only have 50 contract slots, and Davidson will want to keep a few of those slots open in case there is an opportunity to make a deal..
If I had to give Davidson a grade – I'd give him a B… I wish he was a little more aggressive, but I get what he's doing and like I posted above – there is no one to sign at the moment so it's not like he's sitting on his hands.. Also, I can wait – this isn't my first rodeo with this team, lol.. It's like my 5th rodeo.. Of course Bedard STILL NEEDS someone to play with, and honestly if I were Davidson, I would legitimately consider signing Brent Burns to a PTO, or send him a training camp invite – then put him on a line with Bedard.. It's not like anything bad could come out of it considering it's a ZERO risk move.. Sure, Burns is older but so what? Bedard isn't the quickest guy on the team either so it's not like he'd be struggling to keep up with the play.. And I can already see the replies – yes, I'm aware Burns is a defenseman, and I'm also aware he's probably 40, but are you aware that he can also play forward? Also, it's not exactly like players lose their talent with age – no – that only improves with time – so the hands and skill is certainly still there, besides I think it would be a good idea to add a veteran to this group of kids because this team – regardless of who slides in where is going to be a little wet behind the ears.. And when I say vet – I mean someone like Burns, not a 26-year-old like Vlasic – Vlasic is still a kid – I'm talking about a "John Madden-type" – every young developing team needs a guy like that, and yea I know Foligno brings some of that to the table but he doesn't have the forte I'm talking about. I used "John Madden-type" for a reason..
Marner was CLEARLY going no where BUT Vegas. I mean it's not like he passed on the Hawks – he just obviously really wanted to go to Vegas, and that's fine… No one got snubbed (well, maybe the Leafs did, lol), I'm talking about the rest of the league… Look, it's not like Marner even tested the market so, whatever…. Maybe Kapritzov will test the waters next summer? Obviously there is a 90% chance he'll get an extension – but that's still 10%…
Either way the Hawks STILL need someone to play with Bedard – and that player is NOT in the organization at the moment.. The Hawks don't have anyone in the system even close to that level – no – the Hawks are going to have to sign someone next summer, make a trade or get lucky and win the draft lottery next summer….
I lost faith in Kyle when I saw him cry at the Corey Perry press conference. Gotta be tougher than that to be an NHL GM. And I lost faith in Danny Wirtz when he publicly fired Pat Foley, and for such a panty waist offense no less. These two at best will win us one Cup, and thats still a big if and will probably be the result of more external factors then hockey/business acumen. But they'll 100% screw up the following season. Danny Wirtz will be hated as his grandpa was.
This org sucks. They should have never fallen to this tank. Next year is going to be just as bad.

Guys….Love your show. Please comment on what the current players might think of the way Davidson the handled Kane and Toews situation. Those guys won 3 Cups and were shown the door in a cold rude fashion. Toews on one leg and half a lung would have been a better mentor than Corey Perry or a couple of the other vets. And Kane??? Come on – wouldn't it be nice to have someone in the room who actually WON here? Kane has been a free agent twice now and had to sign somewhere else.

No. You can't build correctly how they were trying to do it. Wish we kept Hagel though. We would just be mid forever.
Only way I'm going to hate on Kyle is if after this year we don't land a top line forward in free agency or trade at the end of the year if one is to be had.
The only issue is I want another elite pick in the draft and if we're really bad again it's going to be hard to get a big name FA to buy in when other teams have cap space.
I lost faith when he didnāt draft Demidov as well as how he and the organization handled the Corey Perry incident. I was also not pleased when he didnāt even attempt to bring Kane or Toews back. I Gained a small amount of faith back when they drafted Frondell. I Hope it all comes together over the next couple years but have honestly not been incredibly impressed. He has a good ability to stockpile picks but his decision making with drafting is still suspect at this point until a couple of the prospects develop into star nhl talent.

How likely are we getting McKenna?
GMKD has a plan and heās sticking to it and its working. He has made smart moves with cap space, draft picks, FA, trades. He has signed short term FAs that have done their jobs. Domi, Maroon, Martinez, Mrazek, and others. No FA have hurt this team. Mid term FA at a reasonable price have played fine without breaking bank. Bertuzzi, Teuvo, Donato. Trades like Mikheyev, Dickenson, capt Foligno and Jones for Knight have been good. Draft picks, Levshunov, Bedard, Moore, Nazar, Rinzel, Lardis look good with Korch still in mix. His first long term signing of homegrown talent Vlasic is considered excellent. This is a rebuild. GMKD is guiding this team just fine.
The "Give it time" excuse is a conflict of interest, wish the worked in my profession if I consistently failed to progress year after year, remember KD is on plan B or C the first 2 failed you don't get a Winter Classic game in a rebuild season.
Bedard better open it up with 19 goals in his first 7 games to change people's opinions
DeBrincat was disastrousāshould have pulled a first and Sanderson or comparable blue chip prospect out of Ottawa for him.
Hagel was bad (overvaluing late-round firsts), but not nearly as bad. Not even in the same zip code.
These āDavidson Eraā positivity vibes harkens back to the days of unearned optimism over the āABC line.ā I remember when we booed Dollar Bill for doing essentially many these same things to save money.
Marner would've screwed us. The hype for Marner, who is also toxic in playoffs, needs to stop.
A+ to KD for not making that signing, watch Vegas go nowhere. Boeser was the ideal agent to sign, KD offered, & VanCity decided to keep him.
Overall, B+ to KD as a GM so far. He's A+ for trades, deals & drafts by far.
Everyone sleeping on KD after what's He's done so far is as atrocious as those sleeping on Connor Bedard so early, LOL.

They are settling to be bad as of right now, I understand the long process of the rebuild but they canāt finish in the bottom 3 of the league for 4 years in a row and tell the fan base to be patient when they arenāt even trying to improve the team with at least a trade for a legitimate player who can contribute for years to come, no top end guy is coming here in free agency right now either. They are afraid take a spot from one of their beloved prospects and hope and pray they work out. Management and the media will keep pushing the narrative that the prospects are coming! the prospects are coming! even tho anyone who follows hockey knows a majority of prospects donāt pan out like they are supposed to
I, as a Blackhawks fan, am losing faith in any NHL media since they seem to have no idea as to how a back end build works.
The fact that public hockey fans give the organization a C on draft/development and a D on trading just shows how they cannot put aside their biases (hawks 'fans' not much better with the C- on trades).
