Colorado didn't really give up anything of value. Kovalenko is a 25 year old middle 6 winger who was going to lose his spot when Drouin came back and has an out clause in his contract that lets him go back to Russia if he is not on an NHL team. None of the picks that they gave up will become valuable roster players that can contribute in any meaningful way by the time the Avs cup window closes. From top to bottom, a healthy Colorado team is probably the deepest team in the West and is easily a cup contender today.
I don`t think it`s an overpay. Georgiev on his contract has 0 value. Blackwood was the only guy available. Avs were on the brink of loosing a contender year due to goaltending.
I`m surprised it was not a 1st that went the other way, as Blackwood has a low cap and 91SV%.
The 2nd will be around 50th overall, not very likely to get a NHL player there.
