The Florida Panthers are back to back Stanley Cup Champions in 2025.
What is chilling about how this team was built goes back to a glimpse in the 2014 NHL Draft.
The first overall pick, Florida Panthers selected Aaron Ekblad. The second overall pick was Sam Reinhart to the Buffalo Sabres. The third overall pick was Leon Draisaitl to the Edmonton Oilers and the 4th overall pick was Sam Bennett to the Calgary Flames.
Who knew that one day Ekblad, Reinhart, and Bennett would unite on the Florida Panthers to win 2 cups against the 3rd overall pick of the same draft year, Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers.
The image of all 3 of them in the same shot is bone chilling. Nobody knew that one day they’d all be teammates and cup champions together.
Even more chilling is in the previous year, the 2013 NHL Draft, Florida Panther selected Alexander Barkov 2nd overall shocking the world. They passed up on the consensus number 2 pick, Seth Jones who eventually went to Nashville at #4.
Who knew that 12 years later, Barkov now the captain of the Panthers and one of the best two way players in the game, would unite with Seth Jones whom the Panthers passed up on. Together with Bennett, Reinhart, and Ekblad, they would win 2 stanley cups.

Chilling to see Ekblad, Reinhart and Sam Bennett all in the same shot back in the 2014 NHL Draft as the Florida Panthers were deciding on who to take first overall. Who knew that 11 years later they'd all be on the same team winning their 2nd cup in a row. To add more, in 2013, Barkov was taken 2nd overall over Seth Jones who was the consensus number 2 pick. They passed up on Jones but 12 years later, they'd reunite this time on the same team to win a cup together. Chilling NHL stories!
