  1. The emergence of Fedor Svechkov will be key if the Predators are to even be competitive this year. He's still young though, so I don't expect a playoff year. I'll be happy if the youth step up and show improvement.

  2. Two NBA-NHL seasons ago, the Raptors ended up with 25 regular-season wins over 82 games, putting them more than 10 games back of the final play-in spot. This past NBA-NHL regular season the Raptors, with some youth, won 30 relevant games, seven back of the final play-in spot. Maybe this coming NBA-NHL season the Preds will take a similar step forward to last season’s Raptors but like so many other things in life, pretty much anything goes on how this coming Preds’ season will go.

  3. Emma’s a real one with those time stamps! I’m excited for the mixture of old and new boys. I know Stammer doesn’t wanna “coach up the youngsters”, but his knowledge and experience would be invaluable to those youngsters. I mean, it’s the least he could do if this season goes like last year….

  5. Great episode, tnx Robby for insightful answers. They say everything starts with a good D, and lets cross our fingers that Barry managed to bolster that. At least the nr 1 and nr2 D pairings look
pretty much given. As Emma mentioned, Barrys nr 1 priority was to find a right-handed partner to Schei. We must assume that is Perbix' slot in the lineup. When those 2 are locked down,
that implies that Barry believes Hague will be the nr 1 guy on the left-hand side and that Josi will have to adapt to pretty much permanently stay on the right side in his twilight years
at Preds, at least as long as he is in the top pairing. Robby brings up the natural argument, the fact that it is possible to open up his one-timer a bit more in such a constellation. Sure, but I'd
still claim that Josi enters the opponents zone most naturally on his left, and in his prime he was one of very few D-men that had this for the opponents unnerving ability to be able to let his bomb
go no matter what the circumstances looked like(I think my all time favorite Pred Shea Weber taught him a trick or 2 taking him under his wing).
I aint going to speculate much around how the last 3 D men will be, knowing Bruno that will probably be pretty much up for grabs from game to game

  6. Great pod Emma and Robby, listen extremely hard to walk the line between "retool" and "rebuild"–strip it down to the studs rebuilds are no sure thing when it comes to winning–you look at teams like Buffalo, Detroit, Chicago–veterans are generally reliable and youth is hard to cultivate and develop when it's "win-now"—so you either have to accept the mistakes and uneven play or go rely on veterans. This team hasn't had top end talent for years (Brady Martin during the draft was as high as we've picked since Seth Jones). I can sort of understand Barry's plan here–but last year the bottom kind of fell out—so we need to see Bruno make some major adjustments and this team needs to come out hot here or it doesn't bode well for the future. Martin and the host of young guys we have might well develop but we ain't seeing Brady Martin here this first year in Nashville (more than likely). In a lost season, I really felt we were riding the line here because on the one hand you don't want to play "all" the young guys and pull veterans and say to them "sorry we changed our mind you are a healthy scratch" so in this coming season we've got get off to a way better start or it's not going to be pretty.
