Is Fabian Lysell on the Move? | Korpi VS DiPietro

Is Fabian Lysell on the Move? | Korpi VS DiPietro

Are the Boston Bruins about to give up on Fabian Lysell? Rumours are flying that Boston’s been talking trade with the Edmonton Oilers, and Lysell’s name is right in the middle of it. In this video, I’ll break down what the Bruins have — or haven’t — given him for opportunities, why he was such a high draft pick in the first place, and whether moving him now would be a huge mistake… or the right call. We’ll also look at what Edmonton could realistically offer in return. And stick around until the end — because I’m diving into the DiPietro vs. Korpisalo debate once again, and what it means for the Bruins’ future in net.

  1. If you put DiPietro on waivers he's going somewhere more than likely Edmonton. The Bruins are in a position where teams are waiting them out to see what they do because everyone knows they are going to have to put someone on waivers after the preseason. I'd be on the phone with Korpi's agent and telling him hes going on waivers to go down and sit on the bench in Providence, if he wants to collect a paycheck, he can sit there and if he doesn't maybe we terminate his contract mutually.

  2. Need to give Lysell a real chance. IDK what Edmonton or anyone else would give however. I mean if we are talking some good draft picks in return then it may be good to deal him now. If not, get him in the lineup along with Poitras and get them in the 2nd line and/or chances on the 2nd powerplay unit.
Neither Korpisalo or DiPietro are the future IMO but I would love to get rid of Korpisalo's 3 mil a year contract in favor of DiPietro's 1 mil. Frees up 2 mil and we are no weaker IMO. I guess we will see come training camp. I dont think anyone is gonna want to take Korpisalo off our hands for that price.

  3. With Lysell, you trade him now you aren’t getting anything. A third round pick at best, maybe another struggling prospect for a team willing to do a straight swap.

Take this with the biggest grain of salt of all time, but I’ve heard from people close to a former Providence player from mass that played with Lysell, and apparently he had a horrible attitude. Felt like he was better than anyone else in that locker room and slacked off because he felt a move up to Boston was inevitable. Feels like Don and co is trying to teach him a lesson in humility, but imo give him a big role and let his play speak for itself. Flip him once he gains real value:

  4. Mark Divver on Lysell's post season-"— Fabian Lysell was a healthy scratch for Game 4 on Friday. He returned to the lineup for Game 5 on Sunday and on one of his first shifts he put Charlotte on the power play by taking a roughing penalty in front of the benches. If there was a glimmer of hope that Lysell might come back from his stint in Boston with a spring in his step, it vanished in a hurry. He was a nonfactor in the postseason." Providence coach Ryan Mougenel on Lysell "He’s gotta start buying in or he won’t play for (Bruins head coach) Jim Montgomery. That’s a big part of Monty’s game is the team game and building the team game. A lot of that is possession. You can’t necessarily chip the puck, get it back, expand and hit the weak-side D, you need five other guys to be a part of that and you have to be connected. And a willingness to play that way. And until you do, then you’re outta here, you’re not in the AHL, then you’re Jim Montgomery’s problem. But until then, he’s gotta start building that into his game.” Sam Cosentino on Lysell, tweet before 2021 draft ”for some guys character issues border on criminality or juvenality" Inconsistent AHL Performance: While showing flashes of offensive skill, Lysell's production in Providence has been inconsistent, with a decline in his scoring rate compared to the previous season. Character Concerns: Some have raised concerns about Lysell's perceived attitude, particularly his vocalness about wanting more playing time and potentially not fitting into the "team-first" culture. Lysell refused to the Bruins advice to stay in Boston last off season to work with the teams strength and condition team. He has not heeded the coaching of his Providence coaches, cried about his playing time in Sweden and forced his way off of his team to a team where he thought he could get more playing time but still did not produce which led to him playing for the Vancouver Giants in the WHL. There may be talent but there is no drive, no team concept in this player. Edmonton is not going to trade a top 4 D or top 6 forward prospect for him, the Bruins would be lucky to get a second and get him out of town as quickly as possible.

  5. Great discussion of how stupidly the Bruins treat skilled rookies when they come up from the AHL. I hope Sturm gives Lysell, Poitras, Merkulov (and also maybe Khusnutdinov) real chances to succeed and use their skills to score goals.

  6. Reason number 6 million why i hate hates being nice cam an don their pathetic development of the youth is well pathetic put lysel on 3rd or 2nd line not like we are winning a cup thats up to Florida an someone in west next 2 years give him some time to play with pros learn others tendencies give him the time he deserves been nothing but good boy an has said nothing about the poor treatment from doncam

  7. I’m not quite sure if the AHL players can ask for a trade or not. But, if they are, he may be asking for a trade because he’s not getting his due. Considering he has never really had a chance to get more than a few games in the NHL. Going to Edmonton or anywhere else might be best for him.

  8. Also not for nothing but the "Korpi doesn't want to be here" was deemed false by his agent – where Korpi has to give the okay for him to talk. If he wanted out the agent would say so

  9. Many times, the B's move on from potential young players, because they "don't fit in" to the role the coaches envision. Voitrano is only ONE example. I honestly don't know why they draft skill scorers. They want players to be defense first, and that's not a common thing. They tend to move on from players that aren't.

  10. Great post. I want to see Lysol Poitras and Merk play. Sweeny needs to announce the kids are gonna play, take the pressure off the new coach. And let's us see half a season worth. Confidence is everything, thinking if you make one mistake you're back to Providence isn't allowing the kids time to grow into a role. Effort is different than making a mistake. I can live with a loss if there is effort but making mistakes. Lorie mad some awful mistakes but he is rounding out in a good D man with another season under his belt. And I'm going with DiPietro. Korpisalo goes on waivers for me. Live with the consequences and save the cash.

  11. Fysiel deserves a shot , dipietro can't hit waivers why he will get claimed. Look at bussi he had a worse year with baby bs. Look at Florida Panthers there roster many former players, now gave bussi a contract. I think dipietro deserves a shot at backup. Rather see kopo go, …

  12. Could you put Kropisalo on waivers first (hope somebody takes him) and if he clears put Dipeiteo on waiver and if he gets claimed then the decision is made for you but if they both clear decide who stays and who goes down.

  13. If we can get Beryozkin’s rights and a 4th round pick (or higher obviously) I would do it in a heartbeat

  14. Put Korp on waivers now just eat the $$ loss. Use the younger talent. As a life long bruins fan I’m so sick of the Bruins style of play

  15. I would prefer to give DiPietro the backup role since it's not like the team is "all in" this year, and it would save some money on the cap if Korpi was buried. However, how many times has the Jacobs family allowed the GM to bury millions of dollars? From a business perspective, seems like a poor choice – I could only see them giving the green light if it helped the teams' chances at winning it all this year. Whoever the backup goalie is, I don't think it makes enough of an impact to burn $3M.

  16. Honestly, if the Bruins keep him but don't give him a real chance – as you well mentioned – respecting his potential in a top 6 role, it's better to trade him. This culture of not putting prospects in position to succeed (in bottom 6 roles) is really dull, and giving up on them early (hey Jumbo Joe!) leaves us fans hopeless for better days to come sooner than later. If ownership/management don't change their mindset regarding this, only a miracle or two to steer us away from a Buffalo Sabres/Philly Flyers like crisis. I curse management/ownership every time Poitras was sent down to the bottom 6 in order to teach him don't know what. The worst part is, we don't expect to see Lysell, Poitras, Zellers etc being challenged with top roles responsibilities. So so sad. Cheers!

  17. Pasta has 32 points in 28 ahl games. Good but less than you say in your video – also not a crazy leap from Lysell's numbers

  18. Sometimes where there is smoke there is fire.
Heard awhile ago Bruins were not happy with his off seasons. Complete contrast with guys like Poitras and Minten who have been consistently working their Canadian asses off to make the pro rosters.

  19. Right now we need the kid to get playtime . See what he’s got then when it counts . Put some weight on and give his talent on his lines .
