Let's hope this year their star players don't get injured before the playoffs, that's what doomed them last season.
Really with this team it's all about the injuries because they are not deep offensively.
The reason NJD have so much cap space is because they haven't signed Luke Hughes to a contract yet.
Hughes really just keeps looking like the extra edge they need every year he's injured.
This feels like a high ceiling, low floor team
Fitz does too little too late. If he doesn't grow a set and continues to be trigger shy about making moves he should be fired.

Not to sound like a broken record but I really don’t think the Devils will have any real playoff success until they move on from Keefe as coach… he is the second best coach every game

I was impressed with the Devils defense in the playoffs. They were tough, they just couldn't score. Certainly, they were a bigger test for the Hurricanes than the Caps were.
Is Jack Hughes really enough to bridge that gap, though, assuming he is healthy for the playoffs? Seems like they're putting a lot of weight on a young player.
Getting the feeling of "meh" going into this season w/ the Devils .. and considering Fitz waits too long to make moves, this will be another roulette wheel spin hoping to land on right combo

2 minutes in and he doesn't even have Hameenaho on the list at all, and no shot Noesen is getting top 6 minutes, 4th line should be Cotter-Glass-Noesen if we want to be taken seriously

Daws is waivers eligible so I am surprised that Fitz did not offer him and a 4th to Columbus for Chinakhov. Do you think that would be something Columbus would go for?
That cap space is all going to Luke Hughes whenever he signs as he's still an RFA at this point. There's some worry he wants to line up his next contract expiry with Jack's in 5 years. I'm sure Fitzgerald doesn't want to do that. The Palat no-move clause is a self-imposed anchor around Fitzgerald's neck at this point. They better hope Gritsyuk can play top 6 minutes and push Palat down the lineup, lest he drag down Jack and Bratt yet again. Malfeasance to let that happen another year. Awful contract the day it was signed. He hasn't even matched his lowest Tampa point total yet. And Meier better play like March 25 Meier all year long. And finally, blocking Nemec and Casey is/was a choice. Injury will clear a spot for one to begin the season, but for how long? And Silayev is still on the way…something needs to give with this roster soon. They still need another top 6 winger but unless they can move Palat and his $6M they ain't gettin' one.
Health is key. The injuries derailed them last year. Good depth additions and some regression should make them almost a playoff lock. 2nd in the Metro with 96-101 points.

There still small. I hope they make a move to get a 3C and get Tuch. Hamilton needs to go he is blocking Casey and nemec. Grits is so overrated i hope he gets trade bait. Theres not room for grits on either wing. Dadonov,cotter meier and palat all control the left side, the right side is controlled by Brown,bratt,noesen and whoever. i dont want grits anywhere near nicos line i dont think grits is good enough defensively. 3rd in the metro and fitzy refuses to make moves early. Huge mistakes if they move mercer and nemec tho. either way this is the year fitzy gets fired from the gm too many times he has been terrible, biggest example not moving hamilton this offseason.

Team won't change until Fitz is fired. Useless GM who inherited Bratt, Hughes, and Hischier as his 3 best players and has done nothing with it.
I really want a Ducks and Devils finals rematch soon so I definetly want the Devils to get even better.
