  1. Not a headshot – might wanna re-title it interference, because that's what it was. The hit was to the same shoulder that Smith had injured.

  2. Blind-side head shot? I think you're blind with the homer blinders on. That was shoulder on shoulder and 2 minutes for interference at the most.

  3. Kings fan here. Definitely a missed call. But it wasn't to the head. Some Red Wings fans should pay attention to their teams players, even I know Smith had a shoulder injury. The refs missed a call here, but this isn't a suspension..

  4. Not a headshot, but also not an embellishment. This was Smith's first game back from a shoulder injury. He got hit in that exact shoulder.

  5. Doesn't look like Penner was going for a hit, just ran into him. Should have been an interference call, but it's not a chap shot, nor should he be suspended.

  6. Good no call. Everyone is subject to hits regardless of prior injuries. That's just hockey, people. What would hockey be like if players got special treatment? So stop crying Detroit. After all you guys are "hockeytown" correct?

  7. @scott it was no more contact from any player who is trying to get into position for a forecheck. Should he have skated around him for courtesy? It was barely any contact to begin with merely tickled his funny bone. That would barely qualify as a check even. I would have expected more rational coming from a wings fan.

  8. Furthermore, check out Smith with the sweet head whip not even consistent with the direction at which they made contact. Dive for sure.

  9. My god, you whiny Wings fans…. now with all the retirements and lost players to free agency your a 500 team and the crying about these calls. I as a Kings fan did not like the call on Datsyuk for playing hte puck with his hand. However it is a rule and by this point of the season he should know better.

  10. That is no hit, unfortunate it may be but neither player was paying attention to how they got in each others lane. Penner had the fortune of going forward and saw him last second.

Should there have been a penalty? Maybe, maybe not. Ref was right there looking at it as he whisled the play down right as the player went down. I was at the game and felt exactly what I feel now. No penalty, not a cheap play. Both players were looking at the play in the corner.

  11. Penner knew exactly where he was going, and put his arms up to brace for the impact. There's no way that was "incidental." It's not like Penner was skating backwards into Smith, or they were racing for the puck or something.

  12. if he was still that injured where a light tap like that makes him fall to the ice.. then he obviously was NOWHERE near game shape to play.. so it was either a shitty trainer, or he's a big fookin flopper

  13. If that sort of hit. oh excuse me let me get by you, is penalized in hockey, it would be goalie versus goalie or the whole Vancouver Flops on PP the whole game. lol. Here let me go look at it again. No, the Detroit trainer should have gotten a game misconduct for letting an injured player play……
