I love the way Ekblad stood up for Barkov against Tampa. When Hagel gave Sasha that dirty hit, & got Hagel suspended for 2 games. But when he came back Ekblad gave him a elbow to the face. Look at what Bennet did to Storlaz. Took him out of the playoffs. And no one stood up for him. The goalie! The way the panthers stand up for each other is pure hockey and makes the teams moral go through the roof. Im not even a panther fan like that, i just love great hockey & the panthers are exactly that.
The dialogue around what this Florida team is about that’s coming from NHL commentators is all wrong. They are focused on the ruthlessness, the big hits, the “rats” on the team… they’re not talking about the panthers true nature, which is TEAM first. And that starts with Barkov.
I get what he’s saying you need stars to step up and Barkov is one of the best. But do disagree that it starts with him. Goalies win cups proven fact over the years a hot goalie like Tim Thomas in 2011 stole that cup. Then you need the talent in front of that goalie. BOB has been between the pipes all 3 years and bounces back from a bad game better than any goalie I have ever seen. He’s been the key to Florida’s success. It’s always been goal tending bad goalies don’t win cups.
