The Detroit Red Wings have added depth to their defense with the signing of veteran defenseman Travis Hamonic.
Hamonic, a 34-year-old right-shooting defenseman, has signed a one-year deal worth $1 million.
He brings a wealth of experience, having played 900 NHL games for the New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, and Ottawa Senators.
Hamonic is known for his defensive skills, shot-blocking ability, and penalty-killing expertise.
He will join a crowded Red Wings defense corps, which includes Moritz Seider, Justin Holl, and Jacob Bernard-Docker on the right side, and Ben Chiarot, Simon Edvinsson, Albert Johansson, and Erik Gustafsson on the left side.
The Red Wings will head to training camp in Traverse City in mid-September, where coach Todd McLellan will look to fit Hamonic into the lineup.
