Sens fan here to give you some insights on these players. Hamonic is an excellent locker room guy, a bit frustrating on the ice, he will constantly shoot from the blueline every time the puck comes to him, mostly missing the net. He may benefit from the new club boost and can hopefully be a serviceable 7-8 defenseman for you.
JBD is a diamond in the rough. We never wanted to let him go aside from just having a surplus of right shot dmen in the system, he has a nice offensive upside and good work ethic. Fully capable of solidifying himself as your 3rd pair D and jumping up the lineup if there's injuries.

I want to know, is his contract a two way deal? Like in other words can he play in Grand Rapids as well as the Wings? If that's the case it doesn't look that bad a move.
I have no problem with offering him a PTO. Actually giving him a year, even at this salary is…. puzzling.
