Hampus Lindholm Injury Update
What if I told you one of the top Bruins defenseman’s is finally healthy. The guy who put up 53 points from the back end and was in the Norris Trophy conversation just two years ago. He is coming back 100% healthy, fired up, and ready to lead the charge again. We’re talking about a player who when he’s on the ice completely changes the way the Bruins play. And guess what? He’s back. Hampus Lynholm is ready for the 202526 season. Let’s talk about why this is massive for the Bruins, how big of a loss he was last year, and why his return could spark that puts the Boston Bruins back in contestion and possibly a playoff spot. So, buckle up Bruins fans. I’m here to give you the latest info on your beloved Boston Bruins. If you’ve been liking my Bruins content, please leave me a like and subscribe. If you’ve already done so, thank you and let’s get into it. He scores. Last season was one of those years. It was a year where the injury bug didn’t just bite the Boston Bruins, it chewed him up. Hampus Lynholm was lost early after just 17 games. The victim of a fractured kneecap suffered while blocking a shot against the St. Louis Blues. The play didn’t look catastrophic at first. But as the day turned into weeks, it became clear the injury was far more severe. Eventually, GM Don Sweeney confirmed that fans feared Lynholm was done for the year. When you lose one of your best all-around defenseman, the ripple effect is immediate. Defensive pairings collapsed. Without Linholm’s presence on the left side, the Bruins had to shuffle their parents consistently, never finding real stability. Their breakout suffered immensely. Lynholm’s smooth puck moving ability is the backbone of the Bruins transition game. Without him, zone exits became choppier. And the Boston Bruins ability to turn defense into offense suffered. Their special teams were impacted drastically. He’s a staple on the penalty kill and more than capable on the power play. And losing him took away versatility in both units. The Bruins limped through stretches without him, and the absence was felt in the standings. This wasn’t just a depth loss. It was like removing the spine from the defense court. The good news, he’s 100% healthy. According to Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe, Lynholm himself says he’s 100% a go for training camp on September 17th. This isn’t a cautious day-to-day situation or a player saying he’s close. This is a full medical green light. He’s skating, he’s training, and he’s gunning not just for a strong Bruins season, but for a spot on team Sweden at the 2026 Olympics. The SI report confirms the same optimism. This isn’t speculative. The knee is healed and the rehab is done. And Lynholm’s focus is now on playing his best hockey yet. He even said, “I believe my best hockey is still ahead of me.” That’s a huge statement from a 31-year-old veteran who’s already been one of the NHL’s most effective two-way Blueliners. He brings a lot to the Bruins when he’s healthy. When you think of Lynholm at his best, two things stand out. reliability and versatility. In 2022 23, his first full year in Boston, Lynholm put up careerhighs in 53 points, 10 goals, 43 assists in 80 games, a plus 49 rating, and second best in the league. He averaged 23 minutes and 11 seconds of ice time per night that year. Played in all situations, first pair at the even strength, penalty kill, anchor, and a key second power play option. The advanced stats back it up. The hockey writers point out that Lynholm started over 60% of his shifts in the defensive zone, yet still drove possession and produced offense at a top tier rate. That’s just not good. That’s elite. Defensively, he has size at 6’4 and stick reach to shut down top forwards. While offensively, he has the vision and skating to lead breakouts and join the rush without sacrificing positioning. His absence last year created a huge void. Without Lynholm, Boston’s defense game changed drastically. Makavoy was overburdened. Makavoy had to shoulder even more ice time and tougher matchups, sometimes to the detriment of his offensive game. It could have led to his injury. Mind you, Makavoy does get injured a kind of lot. The Bruins transition game was almost invisible. Without Linholm’s first pass and poise under pressure, turnovers and broken plays increased. They started using low more and it kind of made him have to force the play and it just didn’t work out for him. The PK effectiveness, it declined. Boston’s penalty kill efficiency dipped without one of its key shot blockers and gap control specialists. The team’s confidence on the ice was terrible. You could see it in the game. Without the steady defensive presence, mistakes multiplied and opponents exploited the left side of the ice. Boston’s struggles weren’t purely because of Linholm’s absence, but it was a huge part of why they never found consistency. And then later on the season, they lose Makavoy and it just even the management gave up and traded everybody away. Lynholm coming back healthy might be a turning point for the team. He stabilizes pairing. Slotting Lynholm back in means Boston can reunite him with Makavoy or balance the top four by pairing him with Mason Lorai Peak. Pick somebody that makes matchups far easier and gives them more flexibility to manage. It also helps the forward group. It unlocks some offense for them. With Lynholm initiating clear breakouts, forwards like Pastnack and Pavle Zaka will get high quality rush chances. They kind of were doing it all on their own last year and their stats kind of paid for it. Pastor Knack had a great year, but he literally had to put this team on his back. The special teams were abysmal. His PK presence and ability to quarterback the second power play unit and probably the first power play unit next year will give Boston special teams a huge lift. He’s also a leader in the room. Lynholm’s calm demeanor and experience help steady the locker room, especially under new head coach Marl Stern. In a hockey writer article, they emphasize that Lyn Holmes could return could single-handedly push Boston back towards playoff contention. I’m a little hesitant on this one. I would like to see what we get from them. We know that they had a lot of issues with chemistry last year. Lynholm coming back, I 100% I think will help them immensely offensively and defensively. But I I really need to see them gel more. With him healthy, the Bruins could have one of the best four defensive top units in the league. That’s if Zidorov can, you know, stay out of the box. The crazy part about this, the comeback isn’t happening in a vacuum. The Bruins are in a transition phase. New coach Marco Sturm brings a fresh system. Having Lynholm from day one means that system can be implemented without scrambling to cover a hole on defense. Lynen Holm has huge motivations. Besides making the playoffs for the Bruins, Linholm’s goal of making teams winning gives him an extra incentive to be in peak form right out of the gate. If he struggles right off the bat, there’s highly unlikely that the team Sweden’s even going to look at him for the Olympics. He’s going to be rested and ready. Missing most of the year means Lynholm isn’t coming off a grueling 82game grind. He’s fresh and that could mean an even better start. And we have to look at examples of when this has happened. A fractured kneecap is no joke, but there’s a precedent for NHL players coming back strong. We saw Landisk come back last year and was effective. After nearly three seasons off following serious knee surgery, he returned to the Colorado Avalanche and even scored in the playoffs. Sammy Salow from Vancouver endured multiple major injuries, including broken bones, and still came back to be a steady top four defenseman well into his 30s. I know a lot of people in the comments are going to talk about Kevin Miller, and you know what? They’re right. He hurt his kneecap and his career was derailed, but they play a different style of hockey. So, I’m hoping Lynholm can come back and be healthy. Modern sports medicine combined with Lynholm’s strong skating base and conditioning makes a full return not just possible, but likely. And what does that mean for us? Let’s be real. Last season left a bad taste in the mouth of Bruins Nation. Missing the playoffs, dealing with roster turnover, and watching the defense look human after years of dominance was tough. We all got to eat a little bit of humble pie last year as Bruins fans. Lynholm’s return doesn’t just bring skill. It brings hope. It means the Bruins can get back to their identity. Tight defensive play, quick transition offense, and disciplined special teams. When you add him to a lineup that still has elite talent in Pastnac, a potential bounce back from Pavle Zaka, and hopefully rock solid goalending in Jeremy Swayman, suddenly his team doesn’t look like it’s in a retool. It looks like it’s ready to compete. So, Bruins fans, the wait is over. Hampus Linholm is back, 100% healthy and ready to lead the charge. This isn’t just another player coming back from off the IR. This is a Norris caliber defenseman, a locker room leader, and a guy with Olympic dreams fueling his fire. September 17th is the date and the training camp is the stage and the comeback is real. Let me know in the comments your thoughts on Hamples Linholm’s return next season and what do you think his impact will be for the Bruins lineup. That’s a wrap on today’s video. He’s our number one D man! So can’t wait to see him back!
That's your most positive spin I've watched in a long long time. I like it when you go on holidays! Now you're even talking playoffs
Phew!
Can't wait to hear him back out there. B's chatter will be loud again.
📢
Thanks for the update. 👍
Do you think Lindholm will help the powerplay next year?
If they make the playoff it’s 100% because of the defense and goaltending being their strength
Woo hoo Hamps welcome back
Go get rasmus anderson from calgary and then we would have a good d core….a healthy hampus is a good start.
Lindholm is such huge part of the bruins , him missing last year was a huge lost for the bruins, if he is back to what we saw in 2023 and Charlie and Swayman also back I agree bruins could play there way back to contention
thank god it’s been so so painful to watch defense without him
Easy candidate for the third A thisbyear.
That put some wind under our sails to be sure! Great news.
Blast from the past bobby carpenter
This will ruin the Bruins tank for McKenna. Lindholm really is a top and defender. Likely candidate for trade. Sweeney was signed for two years to be a pain sponge for the tanking. Obvious with his off-season moves.
So glad to see Lindholm back. I love his game. He was badly missed.
I feel if we can stay healthy and this defense we have can do what's expected of them (not asking for miracles) , we will have a solid defense that has some scoring upside.
With a solid defense in front of him I think Swayman could have a great year. I also would like to see Di Pietro as backup starting the season and I hope Korpisalo will play in Providence. Korpisalo NEEDS to prove himself again, not only to the Bruins but to other NHL teams. No one is going to take him at his current cap hit and no way we want to start giving up draft picks just to get him out of here. Better to just buy him out. Suck up the loss. Korpisalo either plays in Providence or his career may be over.
With a solid defense and decent goaltending, our offense is the same type of offense we have had for my lifetime LOL 1 solid line, 1 should be solid line and 2 lines that its anyone's guess who will even be in them at the start of the year let alone the end of it.
The playoffs are not out of the question but the opposition around us is only getting better and better. Will be tough to make it this year IMO with this team.
Glad he's back! While he will be a welcomed addition, I still just can't see this team as a playoff team. We are gonna have to win A LOT of games like 2-1; 3-2, and I'm not sure the team is deep enough on D to do that. I just can't see Boston above 25th or so in GF this season, and thats just not a winning recipe. It just feels like the playoffs are a longshot; I don't see them finishing higher than Toronto, Tampa, Florida; so they best they can hope for is a Wild Card spot; and that gets really tight when you consider only 2 of Boston, Ottawa, Montreal, Rangers/Devils, Flyers get in. I hope I'm wrong; but I actually see all those teams listed finishing ahead of Boston. I feel like Boston is gonna be battling Buffalo and Pittsburgh for last in the East.
I sure hope I'm wrong; but we just need to worry about staying healthy first!
Fingers crossed he stays healthy for the entire season.
Man I love those white an black 100th anniversary jerseys white one especially. 31 an a smashed knee cap .wish him the best understand hes not makar but still smashed knee cap Damm
You mentioned chemistry i get ton hate for it but you think pasta gonna be happy playing for the obvious rebuild .if I was pasta id want out
I hope he's really 100% healthy and not bravado-talking like a lot of hockey players who are returning from injury, especially those over the age of 30… I also hope he can play without pain and can quickly return to his normal level of excellent play, which is not always guaranteed after that kind of injury and that amount of time off. I'm still traumatized by what poor Kevan Miller went through, trying over and over to come back from that broken kneecap injury. 😢😿
A lot of things have to go right for the Bruins to make the playoffs this season. but I see Toronto taking a huge step back this season & FL struggling out of the gate. FL will rebound, but credible sources have said Tkachuk won't be back until a few weeks to a month before the Olympic break. So the Bruins could jump on this opportunity to try & have a good start out of the gate. If everything goes mostly well, I could see a Bruins vs Montreal in the battle of the 2v3 matchup in the 1st round. that's putting a lot of stipulations & what ifs on things. but hockey is a strange sport. fingers crossed!
Welcome back Hampus 🎊🎊💛🖤
Went soft in the playoffs with all the pieces in place. Show me don’t tell me
Hampus is great news. He definitely move the needle in the right direction. Let's get him the world's largest shin pads-ala Craig Ludwig.
Protect those knees man. Love the pop up photos you add to the post. Thanks Court.
Ad this with a much better season of the other Lindholm on the first line – his tenure in the world’s championship and the end of the season gives hope he will be a real two way first centre !!! Let’s go Bruins
Good that he's healthy .. will help the back line which needs help in ways that are in Lindholm's wheel-house.
Welcome back Lindy!
Good news!
Hampus’ absence was so obvious last season. I like Mason Lohrei, and think he’s going to be a good NHL player eventually, but he just wasn’t ready for the TOI and matchup assignments he was pushed into after Lindholm was injured.
Great video and even better news. He has a great skill set and will take a ton of pressure off 73. Hopefully they take 73 off PP and let him focus on 5 on 5 and the PK.
27 should be PP unit one’s QB and 6 should be PP2.
I agree with you 100%
With everything going on at this time, it is still hard to think they could make the playoffs. But we'll see! Go B's!
