MacKenzie Gore after a quality start
Yeah, I mean, you look, it was adjustment obviously. Um, and we made it and we finished strong and I think if you go six and two at 90 whatever pitches, it’s just kind of it was an interesting way to get there. But, um, but yeah, I think obviously overall against a good team, it was solid. So, I’m not asking you to give away all your pitching secrets, but what do you think was the biggest key to making that adjustment? Well, you know, you go in figure out why certain things were happening and um you know, when you play long enough, you do things like that and you just got to figure out how to fix it and um we found the cue to get us right in the right spot and we did it. So, bases loaded there in the first and one out, I guess. What’s the mentality? What’s the emotion? And um to get two strikeouts from that, how encouraging was that? Like anything, one pitch at a time. Um, yeah, you know, bases are loaded, uh, one pitch a time and try to get out of it and we did. You’re a competitor, how much do you enjoy facing a team like that at the top of the division? And does that bring something out of you or does that motivate you at all? Uh, you know, I think look, you know, you got to play well against that team because if you don’t, they can beat beat beat you up. And, uh, I think just understanding that going in and, you know, yeah, a tough loss tonight, but I think I think we all did a good job of that. And um but yeah, I think that’s kind of what it is. It’s a good team. If you don’t go in ready to go, they’ll beat you up. So those those first two runs, it was kind of sloppy the way they even got that. It’s not like a whole lot of real hard clean hits. Um when it’s like that, is it easier to kind of shrug off and say, “Okay, I’m not I’m not getting hit real hard here.” Well, I think it was, you know, you know, how are the base runners getting on? um we just didn’t win a couple pitches in certain counts and uh if it was you know the first guy two two hit just it wasn’t an awful pitch but we didn’t win that pitch and uh so yeah just understand if we can win a few more pitches that will be fine and we did that the rest of the way after you get into that pitch count in the first inning at what point do you feel settled in and comfortable like you can go deeper into the game? Uh you know you don’t think about that in the second inning. um just one at a time then we were able to get some quick innings and uh just kind of get us through six and so yeah we did a good job but it wasn’t you know obviously we threw a lot of pitches in the first but you just got one pitch a time the rest of the way and however deep we get into the game we that’s what we do and uh we were able to get us through six and give us a chance. How would you describe the job Riley did behind the plate helping you get through six? Yeah, he was great. Um yeah, he’s been you know the last two times we’ve been really good and uh just kind of build off of this momentum and get ready for the next one.
MacKenzie Gore dealt five scoreless innings after giving up two runs in the first.
