It was evident that the New York Rangers needed to make some serious changes to their defense core, as last season was a disaster. And they did ultimately end up making lots of changes. In today’s video, we take a look at TSN’s tier rankings of the defence cores and goaltenders in the NHL.

A goaltender & his defense are definitely symbiotic. When Gump Worsely was the Rangers goalie way back, he responded to a Q about who gave him the most trouble with "my defence." He humorously also said that he was getting a sunburn from the red light going on so much. Traded to Montreal later, he proceeded to win the Vezina Trophy. Igor is an incredibly good goalie who last year played behind a bad defense & bad defensive system. The same happened to Mike Richter who had a couple of seasons behind a n utterly putrid defense. Remember Willie Huber & Rich Pilon? The defense is trending to Tier 2 & may be one good D away from getting there. Will that be Scott Morrow. Guess we'll find out.
Igor and Quick are as good as any tandem in the league.
Soft, nonchecking in front of them led to losses.
Coach Sullivan needs to sit players that neither score nor check hard.
Last year there was zero accountability for lack of effort and lack of result.
Let the young guys play.
