The Rangers, historically have great seasons when there are little to no expectations. They also do well in year one of a new coach. They might surprise us this season.

The Rangers have depended too much on their goaltending since the Richter / Vanbiesbrouck days. Their scoring and defense are inconsistent. And they don't develop their young guys well. They would need career seasons from at least 9-10 of their players to have a shot at a playoff spot. Average is no longer good enough for the East.
