PAVEL DATSYUK MAKES SOME BOLD COMMENTS ON IVAN DEMIDOV, LEON DRAISAITL & CONNOR MCDAVID
So, we did just make a video on this YouTube channel talking about the Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers. We spoke about the Oilers goalending chase, how they’re interested in Augustine and Kosa and all that, but we’re double dipping a little bit in both the Detroit and the Edmonton talk. And we’re also tossing in some Montreal, too, because I wanted to refer to this guy right here, the Magic Man, one of the best hockey players of the past 25 years, an erading dangler and two-way force. Now at 47 years old, today we are talking about Paval Datsuk. Because not only was Datsuk a legend for both Detroit and SKA St. Petersburg, not only was he a decorated twotime Stanley Cup champion, a threetime Selki winner, a fourtime Lady Bing winger, and a one-time NHL second all-star team player, Pavle Datsuk is also doing interviews. And there was one posted the other day on August 11th, 2025 by Sergey Demidov on rg.org. This interview will be linked in the description. And honestly, we’re going to have to break this commentary talking about the interview into two videos. We’re going to have to talk about some stuff in this video and then we’re probably going to make another video tomorrow talking about Datsuk and the Red Wings because man oh man is there a lot to go over in this article. It’s pretty nuts. So linked in the description will be Sergey Demidov’s piece. By the way, Sergey has no relation to Ivan. Thank you very much. Talking about Pavle Datsuk on Detroit’s future, the number 13 jersey and modern NHL trends. Here are the key takeaways from this interview. One, Pavle Dansuk is set to host the Magic Game in Yakatarenburg featuring NHL stars like Kovalchuk Capri off and Sergey Federov. Two, Pavle Datsuk believes Detroit’s rebuild is taking longer due to their long run of dominance, but he predicts something that we’re going to talk about in a video later on. We’re not going to do this now. We’ll save that for another day. But Dotsuk also goes out there and weighs in on his number 13 jersey. He praises Leon Dryidle and he also says that he prefers the old NHL dress code for player discipline. Ah, Pavle, of course, the oldfashioned and we’re just going to let it go at that person that you are. Let’s go out there and talk about some of the commentary that Datsuk made about the current NHL stars and style. We’ll talk about all this stuff over here. We’ll leave this over here to the next video, but this is what Datu talks about when asked to name the best player in the NHL today. He doesn’t default to the obvious answer. It’s hard to pick one since I don’t follow that closely, but I like Leon Dryidle. I disagree that he is in Conor McDavid’s shadow. His decision-making speed is excellent. There are a lot of good players out there. This admiration between Pavle Datsuk and Leon Dryidle goes both ways. Back in 2019, Dryidle admitted that Datsuk was his favorite player and that he modeled his game after the Magic Man. The NHL has recently relaxed its dress code, ending the long-standing rule that required players to wear suits and ties to games. Starting in the 25 season, players will have greater freedom to showcase their personal style and embrace modern fashion trends. Yeah, hard pivot. We’ll see if things actually go the way that the NBA has gone down. But Doc Suk does say that I would have preferred if the suits thing still existed. It keeps you organized and disciplined. I used to wear suits. I liked it. There are fewer reasons to do that now. Henrik Zederberg liked to dress up. Nick Lidstrom dressed in a classic style. In general, everyone tried to stand out, but Europeans brought their own sense of fashion. So, yeah, that’s totally irrelevant to the dryidal thing. But it’s so interesting to me how Datsuk’s answer for the best player today is not the obvious Conor McDavid or Nathan McKinnon or even Nikita Cucherov. It is Leon Dryidle. And here’s the thing. I think a lot of Oilers fans themselves would go out there and say that if you argued dry saddle over McDavid, you’d probably have a legitimate argument maybe like 40 45% of the time. It’s just that 50 55% and the upper ceiling of what Conor McDavid can be is the determining factor in most hockey fans and even Oilers fans’ eyes. Conor Mack, as we had said in prior videos, I mean, the guy had 100 points in 67 games. this most recent season. He made it look easy. The guy played only 67 games and was still able to eclipse 100 one more time. It’s like he was aiming to get 100. And then he just pieced out. He was like, “Yeah, okay. I’m good. Let’s just rest up for the playoffs, guys. You could go out there and do your thing.” He had 100 assists the other year. He had 64 goals the year before that, 153 points as well. Conor McDavid is a man amongst children when it comes to the National Hockey League point production-wise. But if Conor McDavid’s a man amongst children, Leon Dryidle might just be that young adult, if not another man, too. 106 points in 71 games the most recent year, 106 points the year before that. This guy can take over the NHL in heart trophy voting and Art Ross scoring if McDavid is out. We all recognize that Dry Cidle is that good, but I also do see a little bit of a DryCidle and Datsu connection in the way that these guys play. Conor McDavid is all speed. He’ll gallop down the ice, dangle by five guys, then dangle by the goalie and make a posterizing incredible highlight reel goal. Leon Dry doesn’t really do that. He’s a lot more finesse. And I think he’s at his best when he is in the corner along the boards with the puck dangling by guys in the same way Pavle Datsuk used to do. Maybe not to the same extreme creative level that Datsuk had, but he also has that sum of finesse in his own game. I’d say like Pavle Dryidle also has a heavier shot and he’s more prone for those one-times which makes him a lethal threat when he doesn’t have the puck as well. I can understand why Pavle Datsuk says that he connects a lot more with the way Dryidle plays, disagreeing that he is in Conor McDavid’s shadow. Now, let’s shift gears from one D player in Dryidle to another D player in Ivan Demidov. This is what Paval Datsuk says about predictions and prospects. Looking ahead to 2026, he offers a bold forecast. Here’s my prediction. Detroit, okay, we’re not going to talk about that. We’ll skip into that for another video. He has praise for Montreal Canadians forward Ivan Demidov. A humble guy. We talked a year ago. I’m not sure what’s happened to him over the past year in SKA, but he’s cheeky on the ice. He’s fun to watch and I wish there were more players like him. Now, I love that he tossed that in there. Yeah, what happened to this guy last year in SKA St. Petersburg, right? Am I right? Because Pavl Datuk of course SKA guy he played for SKA St. Petersburg for a while as well as Atomobilis Yakataranberg. He is from Yakatarinberg Russia. But the biggest story of the KHL the most recent season was Ivan Demidov and his lack of real opportunity with SKA. You can say wow the guy had 49 points in 65 games. Yeah he’s really good but this guy was getting benched and scratched sometimes. The coach, Roman Rottenberg, did not give Demidov his apples, nor the ability to play his game to the best of his capacity this previous year. We understand why that is. They’re salty that this guy was already committing to the NHL. And it took a lot more convincing and it was an even bigger shock when SKA St. Petersburg actually let Demi Dov leave early to go to Montreal and get two points in two regular season games, two points in five playoff games. Now Demi Dov is a lockin for a top Calder spot this upcoming year. And you’ve got guys like Pavle Datsu going out there and saying, “Yeah, I really like this guy. He’s cheeky. He’s fun to watch. I wish there were more guys like him.” You know how cheeky and fun to watch you have to be to get Pavl Datsuk to say that you’re cheeky and fun to watch. This guy is probably the poster boy of cheeky NHL danglers, ladyb sportsmanship guys who can embarrass you if you give them even just an extra second of time on the ice. And Ivan Demidov is getting huge praise from that kind of a player. So, I like that a lot. I’m a Montreal Canadians fan, also a Red Wings fan. We’ll leave Datsuk’s comments on Detroit for another video, but for now, I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. How do you feel about Pavl Datsuk speaking out on Ivan Demidov and his talent as well as how Leon Dryidle may not be in the shadow of Conor McDavid after all? Do you agree disagree with these takes over here from Datsuk the man himself? Let me know in the comments section below. Articles linked in the description. And I hope you enjoyed this roll and bye.

Draisaitl is the best all around player in the NHL
Not a hot take
pretty long winded before you got to Demidov . click baiting
At least if we speak about last season, it is mind-boggling how many see McDavid, McKinnon and Kucherov above Draisaitl, when Draisaitl ended up across regular-season (with fewer games) and Playoffs with a total of 139 points, astronomical 18 points ahead of Kucherov, referred by most media as the points winner of the 2025 season. I find it highly unfair how all 'thropies' seggregate teh regular vs playoff season, when it should be clear that Draisaitl has been, even with the hand-break on in the last 10 games of the regular season BY FAR THE BEST NHL Player. There should be a trophy for that, and most definitely Helleybuck should have not won his trophy over Draisaitl!
even you just said, 'Draisaitl ended up with 106 points', completely ingoring the other 33 in the playoffs, as if those don't count!
I miss Datsyuk. I watched him night in and night out for years. I saw many of his highlights live as they happened. It's why I'm not upset about the Red Wings now. I knew I was watching something special back then. Going all the way back to the 1990's. I knew the Red Wing reign was going to end someday. We had it so good for so long here in Detroit. It's a new era now and I know Yzerman will do what it takes to get us where we need to be. When you've hit rock bottom the only way is up.
pressure being put on demigod hope he can handle it….block the noise
Right on. I tell everyone demidov reminds me of Datsyuk. From Detroit area he was the best hand feet mind combination. Demidov has the mind and feet and hands are coming fast
Theres been two or three seasons that Leon Draisaitl out scored but played better then McDavid and McDavid has said he's been better then him
I love Leon but nobody compares to Pavel.
Draizaitl is to McDavid what Malkin was to Crosby or Jagr to Lemieux. A superstar on his own right, both benefiting from playing with a great player, but also being at a disadvantage of being a bit in the shadow of another superstar. Lucky teams and players to have that “problem” of too many superstars
