In this episode of Breaking Brière, we dive deep into one of the most controversial moves of Danny Brière’s early tenure as Flyers GM — the Kevin Hayes trade.
From Hayes’ rise in New York to his complicated time in Philadelphia, to the gritty reality of his departure, we break down every angle. Why did Brière only get a sixth-round pick? Was it worth retaining 50% of his salary? And what does this trade say about the future of the Flyers’ rebuild?
With a raw, fast-paced narrative style, we dissect the deal, revisit Hayes’ legacy, and give this trade a final score on the Breaking Brière scale.

I just looked to see what the Flyers did with that 6th round pick from STL. They moved it along with LAs 5th round pick to Calgary to move up into the 4th round and took Heikki Ruohonen. Calgary took Luke Misa with LA's 5th round pick, Michael Misa's older brother and Eric Jamieson with the 6th rd STL pick.
Easily going to become one of the best flyers series on YT 👏🏼
imagine unloading an all star for a 6th round pick. But lets remember we started building this team around "Kevin Hayes's friends". Cam Atkinson (which lead to him putting in a good word for Torts) and Keith -50 Yandle
Good show. Thanks
Please rip into Yandel biggest theft of salary since 2000
Don't forget that originally that trade was Hayes and Sanheim for Torey Krug. We were very lucky that Krug invoked his no trade clause. We would have been calling for Danny B's head.
Fatty Blubber put out that Fake Story that Hayes was the Reason Cutter wouldn’t sign. I hope you mention that story. all the De@th threats because of that story.
haven't liked everything that Briere has done, but what a total mess he came into. The GMs prior to Briere made so many bad trades, draft picks, free agent signings etc. that they created an enormous void in talent. Hard to say whether or not Briere will succeed. This has been a cursed franchise (Bobrovsky, Patrick, Gauthier, Carter Hart for example) for so long, maybe the unbelievably long string of bad fortune is in the process of changing.
A shame it didn’t work out. I love Kevin Hayes
