The Night When Only 334 Fans Showed Up…

Empty arenas became the norm back in 2020, but before that, you’d have to go back to January 22nd, 1987 to see a hockey game played in front of almost nobody. This is the story of the “334 Club”, the lowest attended NHL game in history. A massive blizzard hit the Tri-State area on the night of a Devils-Flames game in New Jersey, and only the most dedicated fans turned out to see hockey history.

  1. Seriously, what's the story here?
Is it that there was a low crowd; the weather; some players couldn't make the venue; or was it the result?
How on earth is this a worthy story?

  2. Lol i remember that gamecand i would also like to add, if a hugexsnowstorm took place before a game in Canada, the arena would be packed!

  3. That part of Jersey is one of the worst places to have a sports venue to begin with, snow or no snow.. 334 people would be considered a great crowd to watch a Miami Marlins game. These days, most facilities have a place for players to rest at before the game so they don’t have to travel out. It was so great to see Chuck Scarborough in his prime again, one of the greatest newscaster in NYC history.

  4. I was one of the 334 people My friend and I decided to go because driving through the snow did not bother us and we knew that by the time the game was over the roads would be plowed somewhat so we went

  5. Not surprised that the Devs would have the lowest attendance. I mean, have you ever gone to their regular games…

  6. The 334 club got season tix if I remember correctly. Also, what a yonug Chuck Scarborough on WRC (NBC4 New York!)

  7. I think I went to a Capitals game with my son that could have had less fans than players. We lived a mile or so from Arena and was during an unexpected snowstorm
