They Are About to Take Over in 2026

The Canadiens were supposed to be rebuilding. Then everything clicked. A rookie shattered records, stars found their form, and a young core took over. Was it a lucky run or the start of something real in Montreal? The NHL might not be ready for what’s coming.

  1. I a hans fan the young and fast guys annoyed other team but they are for regular season not enough big boys that win the cup

  2. Three (3) things that actually went wrong for them in 24/25: Primeau underperforming consistently until Sam got back-to-back-to-backs waiting on Dobes, Kirby Dach's knee Chapter 3 and Laine coming in mid-season on one knee only. Not everything "went right for them", it's just that one of BOS/NYR was always expected to make the playoffs… and didn't.

  3. I'm sure they'll have one hell of a season, but comes playoffs: how will this young team handle the completely different game then? My guess is their next playoffs will be a bit meh, and they keep their key elements and with experience become the cup contenders the time after that.
But, please, Habs, prove me wrong.

  4. It's not easy getting to the top of this league. Montreal could turn into a contender. But that's no guarantee right now.
There was a team that won their division with most of the players on their roster was 24 years old and under. And that was after a season where they improved by 24 points or so, in the standings. But ownership totally sabotaged that. That team was the Florida Panthers 10 years ago. That's just an example of there are a lot of teams that have been in a similar situation as the Habs are right now, and for any number of reasons it didn't go the way people might have thought it would. A rebuild is a fragile thing, the slightest thing could throw it off and make the players all not reach their potential.

  5. Hard not to be optimistic at the start of this season. What a difference a great GM made in Habstown. Hughes is the real deal and knows how to put together a winning team…..so much better than the douchenozzle he took over from. Bergevin was was all ego and emotion…Hughes is all business and common sense. Frank Selke was the GM when I became a Habs fan and I can assure you that Hughes is the real deal. Can't wait for the puck to drop this fall.

  6. I wasnt expecting them to go far last year, than they made it to the playoffs… and again i wasnt expecting them to go far, but even in their first round defeat i was just happy to see what progress they made. GO HABS GO!!!
