  1. People act like 2 consecutive 50 pts season is bad for someone thats not even 21 yet. He also was on a top 10 in the league first line. I love Slaf, he was the best pick for the teams future.

  2. I think it’s still early, moreover Slaf is playing on a first line whereas Shane is on the 3rd line. I’m waiting at least another year or two before I give my verdict on this one. By then, both players should be playing to their full potential and also, Wright will probably be playing on the top 6 in Seattle so it’ll be a fairer comparison between the 2.

  3. Slaf is a big boy, they generally take longer to develope because through the lower levels they can rely on there size. Habs knew this when they drafted him and I dont think they are at all upset by the choice, it wasn't a strong year but I think we got the best guy available that year.

  4. Well something is said that if they went out to sign a 2c instead of insetting Wright at that spot tells me they do not have full confidence in the guy. I still think Montreal made the right choice for the team/franchise. Slaf hasn't hit a ceiling yet either. He is also more passionate than Wright is. I mean, did you see his comments after losing in teh first round of teh playoffs?

  5. Slaf, Wright, Cooley, they are all good and will get better, all the teams that drafted them and their fans can be happy, and hopeful about their future.

As a MTL fan, we can also rejoice knowing that Slaf is definitely not a bust, because we had way too many of those.

If he ends up being a 60-70 point player, drafting him is a huge success, considering the size, physical play and skill he brings. Nothing against Wright and Cooley, but players like them are usually available every year at the draft, 6’3” 225 players with skill like Slaf are not aways there.

Even at 21st overall in the 24 draft, a player like Michael Hage could be very close to what Wright and Cooley bring talent wise, and most definitely Ivan Demidov is already looking like a superstar vs all these players. So drafting Slaf, makes even more sense now because of the other players that MT drafted after, the team is very balanced skill and size wise, because of Slaf.

  6. Wright actually played 2-3rd line with average of 15 min for the whole year and managed more points than his 1st lone center Maty Benier lol.
He is actually able to carry a line. He also started the year with a 4 pts in 20 games before he got his groove.

  7. I always thought Cooley was the right choice and still believes that.
Between Slaf and Wright, I would choose Slaf. I just don't like Wright. They'll probably end up similar, but Slaf should be more clutch and more of a leader.

  8. It was important to go for a bigger guy, this is why Wright even Cooley wasn't in the plan for the Habs, to this day it is still true that we are better with the big guy, imagine Cooley with Suzuki Caufield Hutson and many others, damn we still need extra pounds. Slaf was and still the right pick for the team they want to become.

  9. Shane took some time to hit his stride, but in the second half of the season he was on a 50+ point pace

  10. [Slaf] In TPS 2022 we had a very defensive style of play and the coach wasn´t too keen on Juraj. He played mostly on the 3rd line with some good effort but got no points. He was a totally different player in the national team.

  11. Thats such a sad take. You only mention points like thats all that matters in hockey, why dont you compare bodychecks and shot blocks too?

  12. It takes 5 years to do a fair comparison. It will be interesting to follow. and will Cooley turns out to be the best? I'm still glad we picked Slav.
